Thank you for these videos. My grandpa passed away a few days ago. He made beautiful stained glass pieces. He started a piece for my grandma but died before he could finish it. So I'm watching all these videos to learn how to do this so I can finish the piece he started for her. So far, you've given me hope that I might actually be able to do this.
Picking up my stained glass hobby after 35 years😁. So excited to get going again and love your videos for a refresher….keep them coming and so happy I found you guys!
Just watch this again for the 2nd time and Ed & Barb there is some really good information in the video...!!! Loved and laughed at Barbs tip at the end too...! LOL
Thank you so much for watching! Join us Monday at 7Pm Est for the livestream Q&A. We chat about glass, answer questions, share info and there’s a glass demo.
Picking up stained glass again after 30 years. Lots of good reminders in your video. I was especially interested in how you cut out the pieces of the birds when you had them placed so close together. I would have never tried the "I got it cut" at the throat of the bird. I would grind it out! I will try to cut a tight inside curve now. Thank you for your help!
Thank you so much! I have been wanting to learn for over a year! For past six months I am watching RU-vid daily, have purchased my tools, tried practicing and thanks to YOU BOTH I think I finally have to courage to plug -in the soldering iron Tonight! I just copper foiled. Wish I saw you months ago! I am watching every one of your tutorials today! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and taking your time to teach us!!! Must go watch you do cardinal! Thank you
I am just about to get started in stained glass... got a lot of supplies and glass with more on the way... I have been watching these videos in preparation to get started and they are very helpful! I am looking forward to watching more videos and learning the basics and beyond- thank you!
Luv you two. Getting a lot of tips from you. My question is. Why does my dodder come out so lumpy? I think I use too much solder. I have been practicing but I don’t improve in this area. Have improved tremendously on my cutting thanks to you
Lots of good stain glass cutting & foiling tips on this video guys...! Ed's secret tip at the end was smart...! My wife personally agrees and like Barb's tip better... LOL good one Barb... You made us both laugh...! Good collaboration to the both of you on week #3 video...! 👍
Super excited to find you!!! Just getting started with stained glass at home after my daughter completed a couple of high school stained glass courses. Looking forward to all of your videos!
I am so excited to find you!! My husband and I have transom windows in our old farmhouse that we are restoring. We want to replace the broken windows with stained glass . Can't wait to learn from you.
I just discovered your site and although I do fused glass, your tutorials on cutting are helpful to me also. That is my weakness. I want to know which side of the grozier pliers is up when you are pulling down and out. P .s. my grandson lives in Conway, just graduated from CCU.
My question is, where do I cut my pattern at? Inside my marker line or on the outside of the marker line? I hope this question makes sense. I thought each piece was cut on the inside of the pattern piece, but it doesn’t seem to line up properly. Ugh! Thank you so much for answering my question. I really love watching you both and want to get as good as you regarding stained glass.
Overhead camera would be good. I am about to begin this new technique (to me). I want to lead several windows in my house in Spain. Will be building them in the UK. Hopefully the temperature differences won’t be an issue? 40 degrees in the summer in Southern Spain. Love your programs, very clear. Regards AlisonX
Yes! We are adding an overhead camara. We hope to have it for the Monday livestream. The temp should not make difference, just adjust your iron. Thanks for watching!
I have a question. When you are cutting the glass, does your middle finger actually touch the glass? Does that also help you guide the cut? Thanks so much! I love your channel ❤
Thanks for the info I got my first grinder back in June and have been working with it a lot I was using a hand sander that I got at Walmart and I still use it from time to time when I have a big job to work on but 90 0/0 of the time I use my grinder also I was working with leather and have a tool that I would do the ends of the leather and have been using it when I put the tape on the glass also I found a better way to get the tape by laying it with the sticky side up and putting the glass in the middle I can keep it straight. I am looking into black Penta. Sorry if I didn't get the name right. Can you show everyone just how to apply it for I am still new at stained glass and always looking for tips to make my work look better. Thanks again for all your help.
I haven’t done Stainglass in many years. I recently decided to pull out my supplies in see how much I remember. Your videos are great a resource offering good tips and reminders. I do have one suggestion. Is it possible to zoom in your camera to focus more closely on the work when you are teaching cuts and foiling etc. It is difficult to see what you’re actually doing from the distance of your current camera settings.
These videos are so helpful. I’m a beginner and eager to get started. I love the both of you! I was wondering if you can direct me to a good site where I can buy glass at a good price?. Thank you!
Sunshine Glassworks or Franklin Glass. Thank you so much for watching! Join us Monday at 7Pm Est for the livestream Q&A. We chat about glass, answer questions, share info and there’s a glass demo.
I love watching you guys. Im just getting started using your videos to learn. I could use advice please…. I Cooper foiled my pattern pieces several months ago and set aside. Is there anything I should do to prep pieces having set this long foiled? Do I need to clean some how before starting to solder or can I go ahead?
I got it! Yay! I have some older copper foil that looks oxidized, should I throw it out and buy new stuff? Also does it matter where you store the foil? I have it stored in a room that gets pretty cold in the winter and very warm in the summer. Thanks again for another great video!
Pull off the first few layers of that copper foil and see if it’s still good. The air will oxidize the foil. Keep in a ziplock bag to prevent that from happening. Cold shouldn’t make a difference but the heat may. Maybe just keep the foil inside the house in a ziplock in summer. Let us know on that. Congratulations on learning that new cutting skill!
@@ARTyRV Thank you so much, I will put them in a ziplock today while I'm thinking about it. They seem to still be sticky when I pull the tape back so that good. I can't wait to learn more!
I'm sorry to keep asking questions lol. If i were to make a window of a particular size, how much space should i account for seams and frame- what i would call a seam allowance, do you calculate the sq ft of glass required? I often see the measurements listed for came as face and channel depth, but the space it actually occupies isn't given. Also Whats a basic metric for pricing stained glass work?
How do you cut a very small internal 90 deg angle on stained glass. I’ve had two projects that needed pieces to go on to square corners. I grinder isn’t fine enough to cut a real 90° internal angle. Any advice would be appreciated.. thank you
Yes we can show that in a future video. Use a putty knife to scrape out the sludge. Always clean while sludge is wet. Do not scrape a dry grinder - glass dust is hazardous to breathe. Thanks for watching!
I just found your page and I love the way you explain things!, I am just now getting back in to stained glass, is there a way I can get the bird sun catcher pattern?
"We're gonna take our time... just like driving a car... around the curve..." Well dang, I guess I just figured out what my problem is with stained glass XD
