I been wanting a steel chop saw or band saw for my garage, but didn't want to pay the full price for one. I have used abrasive chop saws before but was not impressed on the accuracy of the cuts especially when doing angles. And bands saws go for about $300 and above. So I decide to modify a Ryobi 7 1/4 in miter saw since I occasionally do metal work as a DIYer and wanted to keep it wallet friendly. The total cost for this was approximately $100, $50 for the Ryobi miter saw, which I bought used on Facebook Marketplace, but didn't realize it was missing the clamping mechanism. I took the speed controller from my old broken random orbital sander for this project. I also tested the speed controller, on my Rigid 12in miter saw originally and it worked perfectly fine.
