I've tried to do that on my machine ( Janome HD9) and it seems to not allow the threads to be pulled when doing satin stitch. I'm your opinion, is it the type of machine I have or do I need to adjust the settings on my machine? What is your preparation of machine and materials when you start doing your embroidery?
Depending on your Janome model, some of these machines have what is called a variable zigzag stitch which I think acts like this Singer 20U machine. I think it would be the higher end machines. If you are using a machine without the variable zigzag, it will not perform like the video machine. You would only be able to control backwards and forwards motion with your embroidery hoop where you control the motion with your hands. You would not be able to get the zigzag motion as you would be using a “straight stitch” up and down motion of the needle, whereas to replicate the video you would also need the side to side motion of a zigzag stitch. Hope this helps. Look on the Janome international website for machines that have the variable zigzag stitch function. The zigzag function is found in the settings and the zigzag motion would then be controlled by the hands free lever (this hands free lever usually controls the presser foot up and down function) you would not be able to use the presser foot up and down function if you switch over to variable zigzag and vice versa. It’s one or the other function but not both together. I don’t have a Janome machine but from watching RU-vid videos, this is how I understand it to work. PS. I have checked the specs of the HD9 and it’s described as a straight stitch machine, so unfortunately you won’t be able to sew exactly like the video machine.
