Oh I like how you are doing this vs folding more vinyl on the inside of the cover too. It will add less bulk. Thank you! Question? If you wanted to change the cover again later down the line, would you add another layer, or do you try to remove the first vinyl first? And I agree about the drama this season. it’s all about the inside of planner not the outer color or texture!

If you use removable (non-permanent) vinyl then it should work to remove it first...though I guess it depends on the cover and how well it sticks but it should work. Honestly I don't generally change mine - I end up liking them and sticking with it LOL but with permanent vinyl I'd layer over it which wouldn't add a lot of bulk but would make it feel nice and the cover would have a nice structure to it.

@@JustScribble - hey, could I ask a question about your planners? Is the paper you use kind of see-through - like the Hobos?

@@watercolourstickerplans My planners use 52gsm Sanzen Tomoe River Paper so it will have some ghosting as TRP does. However, Hobos use 47gsm Sanzen TRP which is much thinner and also has been super inconsistent and had more issues with ghosting and bleed-thru. So it's not the same paper. I hope that helps but if you have further questions don't hesitate to reach out.

@@watercolourstickerplans Hobonichi uses 47gsm Sanzen Tomoe River Paper whereas my planners use 52gsm Sanzen TRP (which is what most TRP planner companies offer). Although it is thin and has some ghosting, it does not ghost like the Hobonichi paper as it's thicker. And from what I'm seeing it's more consistent in quality. There's been a lot of issues in their paper for 2024 and 2025 it seems.

Yes! Thank you for saying that. I actually commented the same thing on a recent planner release video. I’m like we need to be focused on the GUTS and functionality! Planner covers come in all sizes and colors. Or, like you said, just make your own. I am a pink planner advocate (lol) but instead of being upset that a planner I loved didn’t come in pink, I figured out what size I wanted and decided to make my own cover in pink that fits it. Voila!

Cool idea! I don’t do anything with a Cricuit so the thought of sticky vinyl in a lot of cool patterns never occurred to me. I also don’t get the massive drahhhhma over something not coming in the color that someone wanted. So many people spend an insane amount of money on covers (then some more for ‘cover on covers’) that it seemed like all you had to do was find some pretty paper and line the cover on cover with it. This is a great idea for not having to use the plastic cover if you don’t want to. I love the idea of changing it up for the season, or just whatever mood I’m in, and to me, that’s more exciting than being happy with the color of the cover of my planner! Like you said, it’s the guts inside that count (I switched brands this year because I preferred the guts, and really didn’t care about the outside color as long as the inside worked for me. I knew it would be easy to change if I wanted to, so I would get what was available.) This is also my first year watching unboxings…and…wow…I hope people buying all of that stuff are not just running up credit card debt, or trying to stave off anxiety with ‘retail therapy,’ (p.s., that doesn’t work,) but it’s their money and they can spend as they choose.

I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. Yes there’s a lot of hauls. For some it’s their job to grow their channel and also PR for affiliates and such. Some just love planning and all it entails. And some are using it as therapy. And some I think don’t know what they want/need and overbuy planners for FOMO reasons.

@@JustScribble Agree, everyone is different, and I’ve enjoyed a lot of the unboxings! I’ve seen one or two with some really beautiful covers that must have been Japan exclusive or something, and I thought, well those are the two I actually really like!!! One reason I’ve been watching is that I got an A6 for an EDC in my purse this year (and A5 for home) and I’m trying to find a cover for it that will protect it, be easy to whip out and jot something down, not weigh ten pounds…or if heavy (like the Moterm) at least will also work as a wallet…under $50. Any ideas or suggestions? I’m leaning toward the Moterm, but I’m worried that it will be bulky and heavy. So, any A6 cover suggestions (protecting the innards relatively well is good…I spill things, and it’s going to live in my purse, so something like a Liberty Fabrics….while gorgeous and I love it, would be ruined in a week for sure!

Thank you for this video, this is brilliant! I opted for a least favourite color (caramel from sterling ink) in favor of functionality (N2 vertical), but decided I'll figure something out. At first I thought I was going to color it with some paint pens, but this idea is even better, woohoo!

This is such a good idea! I really liked Bronte plans video where she covered her hobonichi with kraft sticker paper too. I think I'll be covering mine in cute stickers for this year tho ☺️ Ohh now I'm wondering how hard it would be to use this vinyl to diy a kindle cover. I hate how expensive vinyl skins are Edit: waaaait that holo vinyl! Omgggg

I actually went with a different planner company this year because I could not get the layout and size in the design (not cover) I wanted. I’m talking about you Erin Condren. Covers are always easy to change out. With my sterling ink I changed out the vellum in my clear cover monthly.

Stinks to have to switch brands because they don’t offer what you need anymore. Sometimes it’s a blessing in disguise and you find something you love more. Hopefully that’ll be the case. Changing out the vellum monthly is a fabulous way to make it fun and inviting!

Mulberry is beautiful - but not enough reason IMHO to buy a size and style that doesn't work for you. Most will end up hopping as a result. I did find beautiful vinyl in the same colorway that would be perfect to get the effect in a size loved which is exciting!

The attachment to the wrapper always throws me. Other than texture (if you are not putting it in a cover) - I just don't get it. But that is me.

I understand that. I know for some the texture is a big deal. For me - I just like to look at something nice that makes me smile and I like my planners to feel like me - not look like everyone else's. So I often add stickers and such to the cover. It's totally not necessary but I find it fun. But I don't understand the attachment to the cover so much that you are upset if you can't order one in a particular cover because there are ways to remedy it to a color you like if needed.
