Older and bigger dogs are known to do that with younger or smaller dogs so the play can go on longer. It's called self handicapping. Polar bears do it, too.

@@mirvha714 it actually does. There's a study with rats. They pair 2 rats together, one big and one small. They play like all pack animals do. It is shown that if the big rat keeps winning by "pinning" the other rat down. Then the little rat will stop initiating play with the big one. So the big one loses on purpose to keep the game going.

Our golden died 3 years ago.. She was 16 and I was 21 at that time, literally knowing her my whole life 🥺 It was the only snowing day that year and she loved snow more than anything else 😄

My dogs do the exact same thing except they are the same age. They turned one year old today and one is always sneak attacking the other one. But he would stop sneaking from a bit further away and then they both attack and start playing. And they are very, very energetic. 😂
