Review after 1 year of use of the Cutech 10" benchtop jointer with cast iron table top, and recently added cast iron fence. I've used this in my hobby woodshop for about a year, and just recently upgraded to the Cutech cast iron fence.
NOTE ON BRACKETS: Just an addition to the content of the video.... the enhancement brackets that come with the cast iron fence are longer and work much better than the original one for the aluminum fence. The shorter enhancement brackets have the screws contact the back of the fence right at the pivoting point. Too much tightening of the screws and it pushes the 90 degree angle out of kilter. The new taller bracket makes the screws contact the fence at a higher point thus enforcing the fence engagement at the 90 degree stop.

The recent improvements of the Cutech Jointers (the older versions are painted gray and newer are black) is exactly why I chose them. Not only did they give the option of a cast iron fence, they also added more supporting brace bars running across inside the jointer that makes it feel more solid then the fact that benchtops all have the same outside appearance but this has extra stability, along with the fence supports which is also a fantastic upgrade. The fact the new ones came in 8, 10 or 12 inch ( the latter two have a bit more power under the hood) was also big....though I chose the 8" one for space reasons. Once I realized all the extra design they put in over their older cookie cutter benchtop design of basically all of them I wanted to support a company that has pushed that design further in making it a better jointer overall. And just so you know, they have also changed the support brackets that you can get with the cast iron fence from 7 !/2 to 8 1/4 for added stability since the cast iron is obviously heavier....and taller. just another example of them taking in feedback and doing something about it...love mine!!!

I am glad I came across this video. My 10-inch cutech came with the aluminum fence. I didn’t know there was a cast iron one now available.

I got the 12" version with the cast iron fence and I really like it - I need to make the in/out feed table you did. Thank you!

Thanks Mike! The table extensions are definitely worth the time to make them.

I got the 12” version last year and am very pleased with it. I just ordered the cast iron fence upgrade so I’m looking forward to the added functionality. I’ll have to work on the wing inserts

I just purchase the 12" jointer. I plan to make fillers for the infeed and outfeed tables as you did.

There are quite a few bad reviews on Amazon that have made me weary of Wahuda. You upgraded from the Wen though so I'm assuming you're finding it better? Other comments say that maybe there's a newer model that fixes some of the alignment issues on Amazon. Would love your thoughts!

I believe Cutech has a few differences from Wahuda, and I haven't used a Wahuda jointer myself so I'm not sure about it's problems. I've been extremely happy with Cutech, and do think it is much better than the WEN jointer that I had before. I believe that I have the newest model of Cutech.

Great vids on this and your planer sled. I'm looking to square up 5ft boards for a desktop. Do you think the benchtop jointer + extensions or the planer sled is the better solution for this length?
@jkmwoodworking
@jkmwoodworking Месяц назад
Thanks! Either approach would work great.... I'd probably use the jointer with extensions just because its easier than working with a sled on the planer.

Also seeing they're all made by the same vendor would this fit the WEN?
@jkmwoodworking
@jkmwoodworking 3 дня назад
Yes, I believe that it was designed with the intent to fit all of these jointers from the same manufacturer, including WEN

Great video, thanks for sharing! I’m in the market for a jointer and a planer. I’m considering getting a 10" jointer and wondering if I could use it temporarily as a planer until I can afford a dedicated planer. Also, is the depth fully adjustable on the jointers? Thanks and cheers! If anyone else has experience with using a jointer in this way or knows about the depth adjustment, I’d appreciate your insights!”
@jkmwoodworking
@jkmwoodworking 4 дня назад
Thanks! The depth is fully adjustable on the jointer. I would suggest maybe getting a planer first, which can be used as both a jointer and a planer. Whereas it is not as practical to use a jointer as a planer.

@@jkmwoodworking Thanks a lot!!! Yes, makes sense,.. and came up to the same conclusion, so about to get a nice Dewalt 13" planer. And I found some hacks to use the table saw as a jointer too. Have a good day man!!!

Nice jointer! Mine sucks. I plan on utilizing my planer + a sled. Any experience with that?
@jkmwoodworking

Yes, I've sometimes use a sled on the planer to flatten a board. I did a video on planer sleds, and towards the end of it I show using a sled for this purpose. Here is the link to that video... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZBR-f4d3cS8.html

I am looking to upgrade to a wider jointer than my old delta 37-280. O was thinking about 8" but the added power in the 10&12 models seems like a good idea. Is the increased power noticable over your old wen?
@jkmwoodworking
@jkmwoodworking День назад
I do notice the increased power compared to the wen

@@quadcamera word of advice: make sure yours comes with a helical carbide. Mine came with helical, but not carbide. When I replaced the teeth, I got bad vibrations I didn't have before
