Cuthbert, GA...how bad is it? With a soaring poverty level of over 39%, a population in a decline for over 15 years, and an income per capita of 60% less than the national average, this city is in trouble. Amenities are about non existent, commutes are long, and with about 2700 people left here, what exactly happened? So many abandoned homes and businesses, in many parts of it Cuthbert feels like a ghost town. The upside is Cuthbert has amazing architecture, a small southern town feel, and cost of living is very good. Can it make a comeback? Let's take a drive and check it out!

What a nice area of Georgia. While it's sad to see most of the homes abandoned, its so peaceful with the tall trees and the homes sitting quietly on unpaved backroads. Nice downtown too. The Victorian home with all the flowers is beautiful! Thank you for sharing!!

Very sad, in many ways, to see the devastation but clearly not the worst of the small towns visited by Hoods N Hollers. The house @0:50 is beautiful and appears to still be much loved. Many other nicely maintained places. Keep up the good work people of Cuthbert.

Thanks for this. My great grandfather came to Britain from Cuthbert, Georgia in 1916 so I’m always eager to see what his hometown was like!

So much decay of those old houses. It's amazing, though, how much house is left of those with the old tin roof. The tin roof really saves those old houses! Also, loved the drive by the cemetery. Always enjoy cemeteries and graveyards. Lots of history within them taken from the old headstones.

I'm never quite sure if these towns look better or worse when the trees are in full foliage and the sun is out. The mostly empty store front businesses are always sad.

So much of the rural Deep South seems destined to return to a primeval state of forest and meadows. I don’t necessarily see that as a bad thing.

Very good question. I think for me, I can calm down a little bit after I'm done for the day. But while doing it, I'm under a lot of pressure as I dont have much time to be on the road. It's the little unique cities like this that keeps me going. I look at each city in a very personal way, I dont consider any of them "business as usual". Thanks so much for watching!
