I'm sorry to tell you this, but it was actually Tails who showed Sonic the Spindash attack. Meaning, Sonic learned it from Tails, not the other way around.

I love how Sonic is annoyed with "Tails" in the opening cutscene but by the end he smiles at him like "Thanks, buddy!" it creates a narrative arc that, while simple, is plausible and appropriate for a game of this era.

I’d actually like to see a remake of Sonic 2 with Mania graphics and these cutscenes (though I guess the closest thing we have is Sonic 2 HD). They’re kinda short though. Also the transitions look unnatural when it comes to logic, since it’d be weird seeing an entrance to a casino in the middle of the forest. I admire the effort however, and these cutscenes aren’t half bad! Awesome work as always, and don’t stop!

Funny, I've always called those "Zone transitions" since it's just sonic and company going from zone A to zone B, which I always appreciate. It's much better than the fade out, fade in transitions that make you scratch your head and you'd be like, "we'll, how the hell did I end up here?". Speaking of, I couldn't help but notice that Sonic Mania has a few zones that don't have zone transitions at all, just the old fade out, fade in transitions, which was weird, because some of the previous zones had proper zone transitions. I hope you'll make your own view for those that don't have them in Sonic Mania, I would love to see that.Great Video, btw. I always wanted to see proper zone transitions happen with the sonic games before the 3rd one so this is really cool. I can't wait to see what else you'll make for the other games.

The Hill Top / Mystic Cave one works for me. It reminds me a little of Angel Island / Hydrocity. One possibility for a more integrated story might be for Sonic to leave the Tornado just after landing to defeat some Badnicks who have surrounded Tails, only for Robotnik / Eggman to take the plane away. Then Tails mimics some of Sonic's movements and the two set off after Robotnik / Eggman together. THEN later on, at the end of Metropolis Zone, Sonic and Tails chase Robotnik / Eggman through a hanger bay while he flees in his craft. As the bad guy escapes, Sonic and Tails notice the Tornado among some of the inventions and the two take off from there, beginning Sky Chase.
