I remember Cutter. Saw this as a youngster. Would've been a nice addition, along with Columbo, McMillan and wife. Unfortunately, networks apparently weren't ready to show an intelligent, confident man of color at that time

Exactly.i was wondering the same thing.Had the makings of a great crime show.Now that we see the inner workings of media.i don't think it's "the people" weren't ready to see this.It was networks didn't want us to see it.Hell people were ready for Archie Bunker,George Jefferson and Fred Sanford (which are all classics and im a fan by the way of all three) but the networks said "the hell what people think we shooting on Wednesday".

Thanks for a chance to see Peter De Anda in something else for a change. I loved the follow-up Coffin Ed & Grave Digger Jones entry "Come Back Charleston Blue" where he plays the titular character, but for some reason that film is virtually forgotten in favor of its predecessor "Cotton Comes To Harlem.". I thought Peter De Anda performance in that was a stand-out in that film, but looking for anything else with him in it usually points to his work on the stage as opposed to the screen.

Maybe you are feeling funny about Peters Good Looks back before your time of Actors that you like Today. But you had them black actors i mean. Just be happy that He @a other actors paved the way for the young Actors of Todayl to make movies and get money that the actors back then deserved. And movies today are not as GOOD.

Thank you, Maria Tobe, for your informative comment. Peter De Anda's film career never took off because of his looks. He was not dark enough for leading roles in so-called "Blaxploitation" films. And his questionable "blackness" made him a no-no for mainstream cinema. "Black" visibility was the demand after the late '60s, and the light-complexioned actor became taboo for African American roles. This was the dilemma for actors such as Ellen Holly, Isabelle Cooley, Fredi Washington, Frank Silvera, Henry Scott, Ike Jones, and Marki Bey. We appreciate your support at ReelBlack. Stay safe. Be well. Peace and Blessings!!!

Wow! Never knew about this “ unsold pilot.” But the timeline this was produced was the same era of the height of the “blaxploitation “ cinema explosion on the big screen with Shaft, Slaughter, (Richard Roundtree and Jim Brown, respectively)as well as Robert Hooks in “Troubleman” and a slew of other powerful black men in lead roles. Clearly, the white executives at the big 3 networks at the time made a point to “ignore” any strong alpha black males on television- especially when Mannix, Cannon, The Rockford Files and other such private eye dramas were heavily invested in. Though I will give credit to CBS for “trying out” SHAFT on the small screen for a season and a half. But ultimately, you can’t water down an R rated movie character for prime time television- as they learned!!😀🙏🏿
@brunolader8586
@brunolader8586 2 года назад
I agree.they always use the straw man argument "people at the time weren't ready". nah mofo say it how it really was.the white executives didn't want America to see a strong intelligent alpha male in a a crime drama as lead.Sure u could be the sidekick or part of an ensemble but the white male should always be lead.The positives of this is that we have footage of a great show that could have been,and those shortsighted bigoted executives are no longer amongst us anymore.The negative is we missed out on a great show,and sadly some of that short sightness is still going on.Just not on such a blatant pattern today as it did back then

@@brunolader8586 🤣 I clearly and initially made that point in my comment with context, Bro, and you just repeated it! So yeah - needs no more elaboration. The issue now with most of these streaming shows and a few of these B movies - the stories featuring lead talents of color and black folk are contrived, forced, over the top and are just plain trying too hard to be authentic and promote this “street cred image. (the failed remake of SUPERFLY is a perfect example and POWER was overdone). I grew up in the mean ass South Bronx and went to NYC public schools - witnessed real O.G. Cats in Bronx, Harlem, Brooklyn - these writers and producers/directors would be wise to consult knowledge.🤔🙏🏿🌅✊🏾

The lighting and the make-up they put on peopkde in tbe Movies makes them look lighter than they are like The lovely Lena Horne Actress @ singer she was not light either like they had her in the movies it was the lighting @ the make-up. JUST like I said they Black Balled Him because he stood up for His Rights whether it was Good or Bad. Not because of his looks. some actors I heard that was the Star of the Movie did not want hhim to be in the Movie because of his Looks and they didnt want to be shown up the white actors I mean. Muy buena calidad de película, y los actores eficientes. También el protagonista es un buen actor, pero no 'llena' la pantalla, si estuviera un D. Washington o S. Jackson hubiera sido otra historia.

Sam West you must have seen Peter Deanda in the soap One Life To Live, wirh the beautiful actress Ellen Hollly he played A Doctor Role in that soap. but He has the Good Looks, like the 1940s And 1950s caucasion white Actors, like Tyrone Power, Robert Taylor, Clark Gable, Robert Wagner Alan Ladd. And so on and so on they played differant roles and they were considerd Handsome men at their time. You are not looking at the right picture. Because he is a good looking Black man doesent mean He is too stiff he is not he is a good Actor that fell through the cracks because he spoke up for his Rights And they Blacked Balled him from his Acting thatvis why a lot of people did not know him he paved the way for the Actors today like Samual Jackson who played Shaft he tough Guy as you likedl but Peter became a Playwriter for Good Plays before he returned to his Creator GOD. Loved him wanted to see more of Him very handsome Man that should of been known more .

This was a good movie one that I've never seen but I was confused about the guy Cutter like was he gay 🤔there was only a couple of female's in the movie and why was the white guy walking holding cutters arm like a couple would do hey I'm just sayin all the staring in each other's eyes and not once did he kiss a woman and when the last lady he left with said I thought you didn't like black woman anymore to me what she was really sayin is I thought you didn't like women anymore but all in all the movie was good maybe the first gay black action movie in the 70s 😊

Sharon Dukes Peter Deanda was not trying to be A Shaft wanna be nor Gordon Parks Or Robert Roundtree Peter was aGood Actor on His own.. He was acting Right Along with those you were trying to compare Him with. even the most Famous movie stars from the beginning, of movie acting get al kinds of parts to play, in some parts they will win Oscars and in some parts they will not. Even though some Movies that do not win a Oscar are very very Gòod. so u did not like Him Peter i am talking about. Does not take away from Him that He is still a Good Actor. You just preferred Gordon, @Roundtree. Thats All. I also liked Gordon @Roundtree but I am not going to make a Comparisan. Because All actprs play all kinds of parts. So stop looking for a Nat and swallowing a Camal, whch means your thinking Small and Missing the Big Picture. Maria is my name.
