Great video! That looks like a very serious machine! Looking around the website I'm still a bit confused about the wheels. Does it ship with CBN wheels? And are those the same size as a Tormek wheel? It's awesome to see how your rig has evolved over time!

Resin bonded is different than cbn. They use an epoxy type substrate with a bunch of diamond particles embedded in it. They do wear down over time, but very very slowly compared to the original Tormek stones.
@FREEHAND.WETGRINDER
@FREEHAND.WETGRINDER 5 месяцев назад
Exactly. Compaired to electro plate with one layer of diamonds or cbn. Several resins that have diffrent wear rates and diffrent percentages of diamonds. Also the resin thickness. 1/8" and 5/16" Plus others ? Ive sharpened 5000 and probably much more and I don't see any wear yet.

Nice! How many knives do you sharpen per day to go through a belt that often? I keep count and get around 150 knives on a 2x48 Cubitron 80 or 120 grit. I'm not full-time, so that could last me a couple of weeks. I just got some PE belts, but haven't used them enough to decide if I prefer then or not.
@FREEHAND.WETGRINDER
@FREEHAND.WETGRINDER 3 месяца назад
About the same for me. 3/4 to 1 belt per day

Well I bought one after watching your video,I sold my Tormek ,quality control not very good for the money. My honeing wheel was separated I had to glue it to the wheel. My bar for sharpening one side would not slide in the machine ,would have been nice to get follow up on how the machine was.

call Jeff at Cuttermaster. lots of changes have been made. he will want to hear what you don't like and fix it.

I talked to Jeff at cuttermaster and he tried to reply here but somehow I don't see it now. Anyway he wants anyone who was an early adopter to know he's willing to provide any parts replacement due to issues or design changes made to the new units. Which are many. So call Jeff and let him know your problems and he can tell you all u the updates you can get from him. For me Ive received several updated parts and soon I'm expecting the final design machine to replace mine.

It was definitely a pleasure being able to speak to Pete at Atwater Farmers Market. It was definitely a surreal moment, anyone that knows anything about networking knows that the currency of real networking is not greed but generosity. Videos such as these, are priceless to the sharpening community.

Hi Pete! Pls, where can you buy that rough diamond resin wheel ? I only saw such wheels with very fine grits (like 2500-6500 grit)...

I've installed 5 diffrent gear combos. I install and use a month then let Jeff Toysen know what I want more of. He ships it to me the parts an again I test. But the magic happened when the 4th control board came available in combination with the final gearing. It produced a bit more speed as expected but far more torque than I expected. Sharpening needs speed but thinning needs torque. Thats when I knew it was time to do the review. In a couple more weeks some new improvements will be shipped to me. This will make the edge the most versital and capable machine available. Jeff said any early adopters will have the future improvements made available to them. He's made enough of specialized sharpeners to know early adopters are an important part of the testing/ design mods development. I know he's been very receptive to my ideas. Its been very fun designing again as I did in my prevous profession.

Hi Pete, thanks for this vid. Very helpful. Can I get in touch with you to ask ? - Am starting new biz, have experience with Tormek. I've done good Japanese knives with asymmetrical edges, etc. and am wondering if it's gonna be hard to switch over to freehand, or if I can set 10deg / 15deg edges precisely like I do with T8. Can you write up what the other wheels are for honing and such. I'd like to price out the full setup and see what it's gonna take to sharpen faster.

Freehand is easier than you would think. If you’re thinking of the cuttermaster edge it’s the all in one tool. I’ve been working with them making it the best re sharpening machine. I just talked to jeff the owner and he’s designed in the last of my design changes. In fact he’s shipping me the final design this or next week. It’s come a long way compared to my first three versions. As far as the other wheels call me with specific questions.

How do you sharpen recurve blades?
@FREEHAND.WETGRINDER
@FREEHAND.WETGRINDER 3 месяца назад
Slack part of belt or on the edges of resin diamond wheels. They are rounded. The more curved hookbill ones are tougher.

hard convolute for mellowing the 100G grind. And polishing buff with compond for deburring. These were bought from Perfect Edge in San Mateo, ca

100 & 2000. I’m using the 2000 a lot more. If you’re buying anything from cuttermaster contact me first. They donate to my channel. You won’t pay any more but if buy enough from them I will send you the laser I use instead of jigs. You can call me if you have any questions. 8182572051.

I've been considering one of these for some time, this reinforced many of my expectations, thank you for that. Forgive me if I missed it, but what grit wheels are you using and are you happy with them or would suggest going up or down in grit on either of them? I'm also curious about the decision to go with diamond resin over the CBN if there was ever a chance you could share your decision process on that. Thanks again.

He mentioned in part one of the review that it’s 100grit on the left and 2000grit on the right. Before this he used two machines with Tormek SG250 and Japanese water stone. He tried plated CBN in the past, but it was too slow and wore out too fast.

Capnmatt it depends how many knives you sharpen, also keep in mind resin wheels will change size over time, just a little bit and very slowly, and electroplated will not.
@FREEHAND.WETGRINDER
@FREEHAND.WETGRINDER 4 месяца назад
@@Musicpins size change is true but so slow. I’ve sharpened 5000 knives and the wheels size has not changed enough to detect when measuring. As it sheds it’s outer most layer it presents new grit unlike the electroplating
