We are getting corn in the ground on our small dairy farm. Alan gets the corn seed and fertilizer into the John Deere 7000 four-row corn planter and is off with the Case 830 to pull it. Alan finishes the small field quickly. The last of the corn went in June 1st. The video picks up June 6th after some heavy rains have fallen, the fields have had some washouts, but not as bad as others in the area have experienced. The weather is looking favorable to get some hay down. The 820 John Deere and New Holland 489 Haybine mow down 2 fields in no time.

I love how you and your family farm. Keeping it simple. Don’t need auto steer and a computer planter to get it done like the melleniom farmer does. Makes tons of money from ad sense revenue and free high tec equipment.

Before you fill in the wash out Put square bales in about every 10 feet. It works. Just lay them in and cover them up. Especially for places that are pron to washing out

As always I so enjoy your videos because that was how I was brought up like your son. My Grandfather and Grandmother raised me and taught me so much. Granddad took me with him on the farm like your Jayson and stayed there till I was 16 and moved to the big city where I grew up in my teens and beyond. Thanks for a great video and thanks for posting another great video of how it is done they old way that still works.

When I was a boy, I use to ride on the fender of the tractor as my dad was mowing with a cycle mower. Too many times I saw a cat or something run out of the field with a leg or two missing. As an adult, I mowed hay, raked and baled hay for two farmers. My biggest fear was hitting a fawn hiding in the tall grass. Which is why I always carried a rifle with me, so that if I did hit a fawn, I could end its suffering.

Seeing the New Holland haybine work sure brings back memories, except the green tractor we used was an Oliver, lol.

Wow that was quite a washout, maybe you could mark it with 2 post (1 on each end), didn't realize that your soil is that sandy. Fawns don't get their scent for 2 to 3 months, it's in their genes to lay still don't matter what till mama ( away to detour predators to her ) comes back to feed them. Great job on the camera Jordan. Good save Jen.

I've heard of putting roundup ready alfalfa in waterways to prevent washouts. The roots are deep and you can spray through the waterway without killing the plants.

Good feeling having the corn in👍. Sometimes when we get a washout, we'll set an old round bale in the ditch to hold the soil, but maybe that sandy ground would just wash around it. Good luck with the hay 👍👍

I don't really like it when I hit wildlife, but it happens. I have seen several Bald Eagles up close because I have hit some other animal cutting hay. You just can't see EVERYTHING across your cutterbar. And when I have skipped Turkey nests, other predators find them by the next day. No win situation. Great video, and good explanation.

Looks like good feed in the video at least, I often wish we could grow alfalfa over here, have feed imported stuff from Spain a few times and have been very impressed, but it is not really viable as it is very expensive by the time we get it . Taking fawns out of mowers ain’t fun, nearly as bad as cats out of radiators but at least you didn’t know the fawn the poor old cats even had a name! And on that cheerie note I will leave you. Regards from Ireland.

Probably will some day, but this runs so cheap, it'd hard to beat, for the amount of hay we cut.
@Stephenklausmeyer-hr9rb
@Stephenklausmeyer-hr9rb 16 дней назад
Hi Jordan. I was wondering if you see any drum mowers in your area? I've been told that it is a cheaper alternative to buying a disc mower. However, I think that the haybine is better for the hay ground. How many acres of oats does it take to feed your herd? Would it just be the milking herd or would you feed it to your heifers also? That is quite a washout.
@trinitydairy
@trinitydairy 16 дней назад
Haven't seen any drum mowers. The oats will be for the young stock.
