Could you do this again on 70 ton blocks of Granite? Say about 200 times using a short copper saw, a diorite stone club hammer and wearing a loin cloth :-)
Stephan----Great job on concept ,design and assembly . I had often thought a car lift was a good component for a rock saw positioner .Steve Cross akaSuperAx (homemade rock saw guy)
Hey Steve. Thanks again for helping me out with your thoughts. I am so happy that this works now. I even had the nerves to film the process... :) It turned out that the diameter of the top wheels was too small. This caused the crimped section of the wire to bend too much and slowly broke up the individual metal strands. Anyway... It is all up and running now.
Really nice build. This would be perfect for what I need but I doubt I could build it. Thinking to purchase a stone cutting chainsaw which seems to work well on sandstone. Your set up is obviously ideal. 👍🏻👍🏻
I would like to see a close up of the wire saw with a description of which harder material is used and how it is integrated with the wire to cut the granite or basalt stone? It is about 7 on the Mohs-scale I guess. Also I would like to know about the actual speed at which the saw can be advanced through a given square unit at a hardness of 7 without breaking? - plus, how long time the wire saw can work continuously with the shown cooling without being worn down? Further, how wide is the cut relative to the diameter of the wire, and not least - how did you get rid of the last piece of stone that broke off due to the tension you applied from the top? Finally I would have liked to see you put a straight tool against the cut to show the flatness immediately after the cut. I am asking all these questions motivated by the ongoing discussion raised by the established scientists in history who claim that such cuts could be made in ancient time using cobber or bronze chisels.
@@chompers11 Nobody has yet demonstrated a polymeric structure that is identical to the pattern of natural granite. And nobody has yet demonstrated a way to cut and polish granite with a precision as we can observe it done in e.g. the boxes in Serapeum in Egypt - AND with the claimed tools for the historical period.
Looks great. You could probably modify your machine to cut same rock in 1/2 the time if you cut from both sides simultaneously, but if you 'r not in a pinch what you have is great as is.
I am very interested in your assembly of your diamond saw and where you got the diamond wire at I'm doing a DIY Rock cutter myself but I'm using a old lumber mill as my setup
@@skystone i am interested in some wire as well. I have two different ideas I need to fully work through to see if it will complete the tasks or fail. Some say one some say the other.
Now if you put this technology into a bakery they could slice some fast bread while making a lot of bread I know I know you probably thinking where does this man come up with these ideas he's not being utilized in his state of perfection I know anybody thinking of hiring someone of my caliber just send your pigeons and I will respond
Than you for sharing the video. I am in the process of constructing a saw like yours and was wondering if a single phase motor would be suffisent to power the drive pulley ?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Awesome Engineering -- How are things going in Your "Rock World" ? I am currently designing and building my "New " Rock Saw (Actually Recycled Junk Mostly ) . It will have the capacity to cut a Rock/Stone about as big as a Mini Van. Rock On !!! Steve Cross akaSuperAX
Hey Steve. Better late than never... Thanks for asking. Things are going well. Just ran the wire through some Jade and it worked! How is life for you? Did you build that rock saw so far?
The two top wheels need a diameter of at least 480mm. Don't go smaller because the stronger the curvature is the more your wire will fray at the part where it is crimped. I learned this the hard way and it took me a long time to find out. The two bottom wheels got a diameter of 700. The friction is measured by an anmeter with a relay switch that is connected to the motor that runs the wire.
Nah man you dont remember what they taught in schools the ancient used copper chisels you know that super soft metal that's impossible to get precise flat clean cuts through granite
Ja super video you have created and give useful information..(speed and tention). Ok I have 2 question . Where did you buy wire blade and motor kW (I assume 1-3kW range)
Jean Luc De Marc - I am on holiday at the moment but can look it up once I am back from France in three weeks. From the top of my head the motor that drives the wire is 3phase 7.5hp with 1440 RPM. The fabricator of the wire is mentioned in one of my answers to previous comments. You will find it by looking through them

Hi. I have a small stone cutting company. Could I also get the information needed to build one? Seems something we might use to prepare irregular stones for the bridge saw.
Hi Joe. The cheapest stationary wire saw will be around USD 20,000 if you buy it from China. The parts I used were around $3000 plus a lot of my time. What I want to say is that it depends on your own calculation. You will have to have good welding skills and a basic understanding of electrics.
I can provide you this chain from india in just 600USD . MAIL ME FOR FURTHER QUIRIES AND TELL ME ABOUT THE HARDNESS OF YOUR STONE MY MAIL ID - adhikariassociatesrnt@gmail.com
Hi, Joe How are you. We can offer diamond wire to you, we are a producer of diamond wire with technical from Austria. Would you mind tell us hardness of your marble and horsepower of wire saw machine ? Sample for diamond wire is welcome. Cheers. Bro i really dig that machine. Question for you, Im not “engineering inclined “i want a mobile version of your cutter,i had a gold mineing claim on lytle creek California(not mhch gold)i wanna cut some river rock into blocks for a wall
There are machines like this that run on rails. This is quarry equipment. Just check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6BtI7_rcicM.html They are quite inexpensive machines. I think I saw one on alibaba for around USD 8000
I am in Kitamaat Village BC Canada. I have been very curious about this process for a long time. Last year I started teaching myself how to carve rock in my basement and back yard. So I am becoming familiar with tool requirements for this work. I find that I will be needing particular sizes of rock for this work. How and where can I get building plans for this machine.
Hello Stephan. I like your saw design, I am looking to build something very similar, any help and design plans that you are willing to share would be very much appreciated. Very nice job. Thank you!
Cut some cristallo quartzite by by saw We cut stone with hydrogen peroxide and ambrosia-using a depolymeurerlization tankert i developed that puts a wavelenght to it about 634hz able to cut thru cristallo quartize like apple butter
I am interested in buying a small rock saw. Wondering if you would know about them. It’s a 16” Covington saw. Is it a good brand name for a green horn. I have no experience but I will learn probably the hard way. Just looking for some advice.
Covington does have a good reputation. Does this mean you are buying a circular bladed saw? I don't think they make a small wire saw. Are you sawing slabs for cabbing, or for what other use? I think the circular blades in the lower horse powers are more accurate (saw a more consistent slab thickness) than a wire saw, unless you get into the expensive wire saws used for sawing high quality quartz for electronics. For a 16" saw, (cuts less than 8" thick material) you might consider modifying a simple band saw (14" band saw plus 6" or higher riser block inserted in column) You can then buy custom length band saw blades, use sealed bearings, add a coolant system and add a carriage for the table with counterweight for automatic feeding, and so on. Ukam might have blades for you. You might look into a horizontal wood band saw, used, or a kit, or homemade as seen on RU-vid, and modify it with blade and new bearings, and so on, depending on what you are doing. I hope that helps! BTW I think Covington sells kits of a husk or mandrel for a circular saw set up to save you some money. Good luck with it, and I hope you find success at it!
band saw blades are much thinner than a common segmented wire saw, so if your material is expensive (like semi-precious stone), you will get higher yields with a thinner blade (circular or band saw) Depending on the stone, you might also try a wire saw and add loose cutting grit like corundum, instead of diamond segments.
Any idea how you would cut 2 foot circles in large boulders? Approximately 2 to 3 feet(1 meter)thick granite rocks and holes are about 2 foot(60 centimeters in diameter)
Hello.Im interested in building a similar rock saw. Please, is there any videos available anywhere online that help to describe how to build such machine?.
So these is what Egyptian technology, holly amazing wire rope and water to cut granite stone. Silica sand water cupper tube, to drill holes on granite stone.
Thank you Stephan I do have good skills about electric and mechanic systems I just want to know where can I buy the diamond wire ? I live in Canada I can order online if this os available Thank you
The wire was from Huada Superabrasive Tool Technology ltd. It should be easy to find them on the internet. The product description is 'Diamond wire, 11.5mm, GR3' for USD36 the linear meter.
Joe pro, if you want a local vendor try HUSQVARNA Canada, 1-800-461-9589 price last I checked is around $80 / CDN per meter. Where in Canada are you? Any where near Ottawa? Contact me if you want to take a look at my saw.

@@kohen7555 have you ever cut solid rock? I have, and tho it's fun to watch home made / farm made tools, this is probably the least sufficient way to cut a stone... what did you expect I guess if you make a toy that large make it more sufficient then a tile cutter..
I wonder if the stone masons in the past had the "wheel" invention needed to make this work?? I don't think they did, at least not in some of the ancient civilizations that cut megalithic stone. But they did appear to have something that softened the stone before cutting.
I often wanted it if some of this technology was used by the ancient Egyptians in some form or another I mean I'm not sure how many people cut more Stone back in the day than our friends the lovers of Horace
Hello Stephan. I hope you are well. I am from Pakistan. It is my dream to make a saw like this. I have a huge stock of rocks in my hometown. It is granite. I need to know how much it will cost me to make this saw. And how long does the diamond wire last? Please help me.

Hi Hamidullah. I just got back from my holiday and saw your questions. It took me around USD 3500 to get all the parts. Some of them I had lying around and other ones I had to buy. This is assuming that you got good welding skills and some knowledge in electrics. The diamond wire only lost an amazing 0.2mm over cutting up to 10 decent sized stones.

Hello Steph im from Philippines im just looking video of rock and stone shaper until it looks like a shiny egg until i saw your video. hope you can guide me about the video i was looking for. its a machine who cut the rock until it is very shiny til looks like egg
Stephan Roess hi Steph it featured in how they do it segment tv channel NatGeo. hard to describe. they are making display stone. a ugly rock cut in many shape until the rock turn into a dragon egg look.
I think you need something like a two or three motor sphere machine or gear motors which use cups and loose abrasive, or scintered diamond cups or core drills. Look up 'sphere machine' on here, and also try Covington Engineering. I saw a cheap homemade set-up on here years ago.Now there are more! Try this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9GK5eFOgOWs.html these are for spheres, and will polish to a shiny finish. not sure yet how to get the ellipse geometry of an egg, those that information exists, and is not terribly hard to find I imagine.
