Would lightburn be easier to use if I get an external mouse for my laptop. Everything is so sensitive I just can't do what I want. Not really wanting a desktop.
Rich, as always incredible video. I'm excited to say that I was finally able to order my first laser engraver yesterday and all thanks to you and builddadbuild that got me excited and educated.
I know this is a older video, but I am beating myself crazy trying this MASKING thing. Trying to put a jpeg photo on a white tile of my deceased Mother in law for her daughters. I have sized toe photo, drawn a square same size as the tile (6" x 6"), and aligned the photo to fit horizontally. The photo is taller than the tile so I want to mas off the remainder. MASK is always grayed out no matter what I do...HELP PLEASE!!! Using Lightburn, D1 Pro 40 watt, jpeg photo...
Another good demo, Lightburn should pay you as a consultant. You explain things slowly and methodically, not like some sites that wiz around saying click here, do this, do that and at a speed that leaves you just as confused as when you started. Or worse, assume that you know what they are doing even though it's supposed to be a help site. Keep being you.... 👍🇬🇧👍
Can you pass a long piece of wood under a laser cutter? I have a 430x430mm Atezr P20 wanting to cut out a "name sign" I understand I can do one letter at a time and maybe dowel them together, but is there a way to pass it through?
Rich, I am so discouraged when I design a simple project in lightburn, when I run the job it comes out 2x larger than the designed image. Please help……
Great video and info, but you didn't quite go where I want, in your picture of you& wife, how could you remove all the background and just have your picture?? in fact I have a broken heart that is on a background and I want to remove the background so I can brung them together to cut and engrave.
What if the apply mask to image isn't an available option? I can't seem to get the the mask option at all. Is there a particular format the pictures need to be in?
Thank you! They're my BS & Master of Computer Science, Fireman 1 cert from LSU, NREMT (Prior volunteer, first responder, ACLS with the FD) and a few more odds and ends on a wall out of frame.
So I took an image, made a shape inside it and cut it. It puts the cut out shape on a tool path. Now I'm unable to select the image to adjust it. What am I doing wrong?
When cutting shapes you said you put the cutter on a 'tool path', what does that mean. When I try to cut shapes it deletes the active line on both sides of the cutter and leaves the cutter so I'm clearly missing something. Your videos are great. Thank you
Hey boss, I just had someone reach out to me to train them on light burn. What do you think would be a good rate? They are 45 minutes from my location out in MN here.
Greetings dear rico! I'm subscribed to your channel and I really appreciate your good tutorials. If you haven't already, I would like to suggest you to make a tutorial teaching how to print images and/or photos on wood. Thanks
Dear Mr Louisiana, how do I replace right top corner of a rectangle with a shape (like flower but og extending the right hand border. Love your videos! From South Africa
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuyHere os what I want to do: I want to cut my business card rectangle and the right top corner must be shaped like the petals of a flower withou going over the border on the right. Can it be done Rich?
I have been following your RU-vid videos for sometime now and I want to thank you for your wonderful tutorials. So practical and informative. No waffling and unnecessary repeating yourself. Well done and thank you again.
OKay, I am doing something stupid. I draw a rectangular shape upper left hand corner of my photo. I select the shape and go to menu Tools/Cut Shape. Nothing happens. I play around with ungrouping and using either Shift or CTRL keys, occasionally getting it to work. I can then insert date into photo.
Thanks to your video I now know how to cut a shape from a photo and replace with text (picture of you and your wife) using the Add Tabs. I really have to organize my tutorials!
Okay, I am working on the broken heart. I made the broken heart with the pencil, all one line. Perfect. BUT, I can't make the selection work to actually split the heart, been trying for an hour?
I am new to Lightburn. I have watched a few of your videos and found them very helpful. I was wondering if there was a way I could Watch the videos in a particular order that would make it easier to understand light burn from the beginning. Thank you
A lot to learn as in all your videos, thank you An out of context question, how to add the autofocus command in the Move tab?. I saw it in another video of yours
The auto focus command is automatically on the Move tab if you have a Co2. For a diode, you add it on the Console tab by right clicking on a Macro, and then in the contents, you type, [ESP500]
Once I engrave an image on some wood how do I cut the thing out? I asked this question on your forum, but no help there. Is there a video that shows the cut window I can't find in Lightburn.
There were lots of replies to your topic. You simply create another layer and set it to LINE in the Cut Settings with the appropriate speed and power. I think you need to watch a lot more videos before you embark on a project to get a better grasp on how to use the laser.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Yes I need more instruction. Thought I had it figured out , however it appears I have no idea what it's all about. Thanks for your input.
great video and you take the time to explain as well . I have the latest light burn and followed your instructions! and looked at other videos , yours being better explained . yet for the love of me. I cannot get masking to engage . on tools either, not highlighted and won't no matter what I do ??? any thought obi one
Thank you Rich. Always informative and helpful. Minimum power setting is one I never have understood or know how to set. Possible addition to a video like this one? Thanks. Mike
Great tips Rich. I didn't comment on the last video because I immediately started making the Mothers day gifts. I modified your files some but the turned out magnificent. 😁 Thanks for the video!
Great info & timely, I was trying to cut shapes 2 days ago, I was attempting to make a piece that would slide over my exhaust hose. I did get it done but I used way more steps. I now know the correct way to do it! Thanks
As always, I learned some new tricks to using Lightburm and thank you so much! I do have a question that your demonstration of masking btought up. Is there a way to bring objects forward or send to back? In other programs (like Silhouette Studio) I can click on an object, such as the heart, and have it in front of the photo which makes it easier to align. I’ve searched for this tool but never found it.
Sort of Marcie. The 2 tool paths are for that for the primitive shapes, like circles and squares. They will be on top of a photo, while any other layer will be under it. In Lightburn, you can only work with 2 items at a time. And I'm guessing you're talking about photos. With more than 2 photos, the newest one you import will always be on top.
No Malcolm. The Ortur is a diode laser with a 455nm beam, it passes right through clear acrylic. You need a 10,600 nm invisible beam to cut clear items, such as the Co2 laser.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I have seen a video of cutting clear acrylic that is covered on one side with some kind of brown paper that peels off would this work.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thanks for your help Rich I found some info from another RU-vidr and you are right it will not cut clear acrylic but will cut colored acrylic.
Hey My name is Mrs G, I just recently subscribed to your RU-vid, you are awesome 👏 I would like to know if the Ortur cutter can cut 3/16 Eucaboard? I’m interested in buying one of the Ortur machines and I have a unique shaped heart and a few other things that I would like the machine to cut out is that possible?
Welcome Mrs G, and thanks for the sub! Ortur only makes 5.5W lasers, so I think you might be disappointed by it. Eucaboard is Masonite, or a hardboard. Most diode lasers will have a lot of trouble cutting it. The best option is a Co2 laser for this type of job.
Rich, then I come with this one! I cut 72 slats and made a big mistake and omittedto add the slOts! Is there any way in which I cana replace the slats into the wood I cut them from and position the laser so that it will cut them for me? I have the slats back to back with a 3mm x 7mm slOt placed exactly where I want them, but now the laser does not pick up my frame
what can i say rich.... just another great video i could sit for hours watching you.. you make it fun to learn which is a rare gift in todays RU-vid thanks for taking the time to teach us all something new keep up the good work and keep them coming.
You are a great teacher! Very enthousiastic about Lightburn. It would be nice if you tell about your experiences regarding the strange behaviour of the software. For instance you choose a layer with a line graphic and want to cut out some lines. It works with a square, ellips, and rectangle and polygon as selection tool but it is impossible to use the "line"-tool te sketch a cut-out selection. I prefer to use adobe photoshop to do the graphics; way simpler in my opinion.
Strange behaviors? Once you learn it, there are none. If you use the pencil tool you just have to close the shape. It's a matter of learning the software. Photoshop is far more complicated IMO.
Well I’ll be dipped! I’ve wanted to do the ‘cut shapes’ task on many of my items and could never find a way to do it! Whether it was to remove portions of a certain shape, or just make a design my own, I would always go through the thought process of wishing there was a simple eraser-style button for just that, but this option makes it so much more precise! Thanks Rich!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Quick question on my new Longer B1 48w. It homes ridiculously slow, like glacial. Cant find for the life of me how to change that setting. I tried with Grbl settings and in Machine Settings. Where am I going wrong?
Another great video Rich, I know that is going to be very useful in the future. The little blue arrow you use for pointing is much better than the circle you had before. Oh good news my new laser head arrived, will install when I get home after weekend away
Very informative video. I did have one question. At about the 3 min mark when you are putting the oval on top of the picture, you said "put it on a tool path." What do you mean by that?
On the color palette at the bottom of the window, You'll see T1 & T2. Those are tool paths used for designing. They have no output to the laser Maggie.
I am a total stranger in the world of all things laser. To the point where someone might wonder what on earth I bought one for in the first place, (but we can all dream, right?) However, just watching a few of your informative and ‘soothing’ tutorials on RU-vid, I am at last beginning to feel that I might actually be able to ‘make this work’ so I am grateful to you for both your benevolence with your expertise, and also the straightforward and calming way in which you deliver it. Thank you.
