@TPlocks you and your content have been such a huge part of my life for the last 2 years! I've only been locked in for 16 months but been ai have been watching since the beginning of 2022 and I've learnt so much about myself, not just my hair. I have "done too much" in the last few months. From joining locs to now having a hightop fade (something I was never the biggest fan of but the festive season had me feeling fancy 😂) and now I'm seriously considering starting over. With this being my 1st committed journey, I didn't know what I want (big parts, front tapers from the start and a full set for the head and for the heart 🎶) and what I don't want (skinny locs, hightop vibes and "pull and go" layout. I did not want a grid but that was dumb of me). Im starting a new role and stepping into a new phase of my life. Also getting older and I feel like my next loc journey will be better informed. Yay or ney? Or must my heart lead the way? If you saw and powered through this, thank you. Happy holidays to you and Yours!

That’s true. (However) Personal style has nothing to do with titles in life. Even if everyone loves how u look, YOU have to love how u look to feel comfortable in your own skin. Honestly, confidence is the ticket. Try whatever u feel like trying🤷🏽‍♀️. If u don’t like it, u can always change it. 🤷🏽‍♀️. But if u feel u look dope either way, others will mold to that belief too. 💪🏽

Yooooo! I can super relate. I cut my first set off locs and was quickly reminded that when you’re hair is short, it’s lowkey high maintenance. With locs, you can just exist naturally & look good all the time. When your hair is short, the minute the new growth comes in, we literally look like we CAN’T afford a haircut 😂 because the hairstyle itself implies we want our hair short and super clean. Waiting at barbershops or barber’s houses for hours to then get in the chair for what could be an hour EVERY 1-2 weeks started feeling too much like going to the hair salon. Especially just to maintain a look that is meant to be low maintenance. I finally regrew my locs years ago and that is just one of the experiences I’ve had with cutting my hair that keeps me from wanting to ever cut my locs off again. In it for the long haul.
@TPlocks

Yea bro I definitely am learning this all over again. First time I cut my locs after 2 years with none of these complications. Regrew this last set and cut again at 5 yrs and now it’s patchy lol If I’m able to grow my hair again I’m definitely not cutting it again. It’s gonna have to fall out!! 😂😂😂

Cut my locs had them for 4 years. If you are watching this, just think longer abo ur whether or not you want to do it or not, and the reasons you have. I felt like locs were such high upkeep and a part time job. Everyone around me was trying to get locs or have been sucked into the loc cult. I woke up one day at 5am and cut them off, and felt like the most handsome man on earth, and still do. I rocked a bald head for a while and loved the absolute freedom of my head, no oil or dryness and I could feel my scalp. I love the maintenance of a low cut, and I feel sharper. I look at old pictures and I’m like never again. Make your own informed decision, and don’t let other peoples insecurities stop you. People easily get sucked into metrics, I tried waves recently and also found it rediculous to maintain and keep looking good. People care too much about, how wavy their hair is, or how locked and long their hair is over if it actually looks good or not. Figure out what looks good on you and what you’re willing to pay for it. Goodluck

I rocked locs for 10 years then went back to my 360 waves. Like you I soon got tired of the constant maintenance associated with getting a fresh cut. I started analyzing a lot of stuff and this notion of black people having to alter their hair by changing the texture, weaves and wigs for women, or cutting your hair for men. It's linked to anti-blackness which is associated with white supremacy. I am currently rocking a loose fro. An afro is the epitome of freedom for me. I get nothing but love and respect from all who notice and comment. I also feel my fro is versatile because sometimes I'll get it braided down.

I didn't think I would come across a video I can relate to so much lol. I started my loc journey in 2016 and was super happy. Long story short, I noticed patches in the front of my head after a few years. After 4 and a half years, I decided to cut my locs. The patches were worse than I thought lol. I didn't feel confident unless I used hair follicles. I rocked a very short cut for a little over a year before I decided to go bald. I honestly feel like I made the right choice. Took some time but I'm used to it and it is very low maintenance. It also helps that I grow a pretty decent beard lol. I'm thankful for the time I had hair, but sometimes we start to look better without it than with it. 🤷‍♂️

I can def relate to this topic as I, too, have cut my locks. I've been growing my loose natural hair now for 18 months, and I went through that same awkward phase of having a prominent thin spot at my crown. The way I would try to deal with it was for me to rock bandanas at my place of employment. When I cut my locks, I had 60 and combined them down to 18 now. Good luck with your natural hair growth journey 💪🏾💪🏾

Yeah I gotta admit as someone with a high top set it is nice that I can look in the mirror and say fuck it, I'll trim the sides down next week. And then say the same thing for three more weeks before I ACTUALLY need to do something about it. And all I gotta do to look normal in the meantime is let my hair down lmao. Underrated pro of having high tops long enough to cover the sides imo.

I can relate. I cut my first set and regretted it. The entire time I had locs, the hair on my crown grew half as fast as the rest. You couldn’t really tell by looking at my head but I could. I cut them and thought I was thinning on my crown, just like you. I grew it out as best I could and got it twisted. Once it was twisted(even the thin area on the crown) it started to grow. You know when you have locs, the hair that sheds just stays trapped in the locs, as locs are a natural protective style.

Your hair will grow back. I don't know how you were taking care of your scalp while wearing locks, but scalp care is very important to having long hair. Many people forget this and wonder why their scalps end up being damaged and over time, their hair falls out. As a long haired natural, I have to worry about my ends and making sure that my scalp is clean on a weekly basis. I massage my scalp to get the blood flowing and keep it and my hair strands moisturized. LOL It helps a lot.

hey! use hair growth butters and oils and treat your scalp (aloe vera, rosemary, shea butter, tea tree oil, clove, etc) and do scalp massages… increase circulation with warm, soothing stimulation to your head occasionally. the good news like you said is at least you can see the patches there now. try that instead of/at least in addition to the medicine and you’ll see wonders. also take multivitamins. our hair needs good food too, sometimes it’s just thirsty and feeding it the right stuff and staying healthy will make it very happy 🤗 good luck with your hair journey, and have fun exploring. it’s about the experience not destination and luckily hair grows back usually so it’s good to have opportunities to play around with it and be creative. 🙏

I had freeform locs from 2018-2022 and i cut them off,and I had the same thing happen mines had me looking like that tekken character my sides was growing in but my crown was taking super long😂 , just rock the patches take care of your scalp and give it time and you’ll see it grow back now my hair is growing thicker and even..

I think by waiting to grow and keep cutting it low you’re potentially damaging it. I had a “thinning” spot on my crown and after growing it out more it disappeared. I also physically feel my hair is thicker in that spot and visibly even after parting my hair it looks fine. Certain areas of our head take longer to grow. I’m 6 months into growing my hair to get locs and I’ve seen this. All I have been putting my hair is African oil and rosemary. So far so good. Washing every two weeks. Much love fam, you’ll be good. Don’t stress it. As you know from having locs, gotta be patient.

Stimulate your scalp with a soft bristle wave brush, repetitively brush the hair in the directions of grow. For example, the top brush forward the size brush downward in the back brush down after a while. It should help to stimulate your hair follicles for hair to grow in those areas.

Your patches are not very noticeable IMO. But if you’re ready to grow, then grow. Your locs in that area may just take a little longer to be ready. But the rest of your hair can provide some coverage probably. What method will you use when you start next?

Started my locs on 8/17/18 and still in this bihhh, I couple things I picked up along the way is letting your hair breathe!! Only time I wear a cap is when I’m asleep or at work(where it’s dusty or I’m sweating). I rarely wear a SnapBack or dad hat anymore when I used to EVERYDAY. And if I do it’s not for a prolonged period of time and for sure not everyday. While growing your hair back, KEEP BRUSHING TO STIMULATE GROWTH. Idk how this is affected by alopecia but try to get at least 3 sessions in a day for about 3-5 minutes. Here for the journey dawg ✊🏾✊🏾

It sounds like you want to grow it back out and get your locs going again. MAJESTIC PURE essential oils. I have psoriasis and although some of those medicated shampoos help, but for me it still caused problems and did not keep the psoriasis down. When I started my locs and started using essential oils from Majestic Pure Rosemary, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Tea Tree - any oil good for hair growth and scalp and I have not had any problems of reoccurrence. Everytime I wash my hair, I use Luxe Therapy Scalp Soother to get through my locs and to massage and scrub the scalp. Mix these oils up and use them alone or to dilute the fragrance, I'll add Grapeseed Oil, or any other Carrier oil from Majestic Pure also and I do it 2 to 3 times a week with water and natural aloe pure only. There is power in natural oils and how our bodies may work. I think you should go this route the next time you grow your hair. Just let it grow and let the patches do what it does, but use essential oils, you will see the hair developing and take its form. Even if you do not grow your locs back out. Essential oils can still be very useful for your hair growth in general.

U can grow ur hair back, your alopecia actually isn’t that bad ,you have more hair that grows in other areas that will cover those alopecia spots….. I’ve seen worse. Trust me…. I’ve been doing here for 30 years……. But I did wanna ask you, was your locks falling out because I couldn’t even tell that you had alopecia your locks was covering it so well…… You can grow your hair back out and reattach your locks because your hair that growing in ,covers all of that. It just looks patchy because it’s short, but once u allow it to grow back out, even as a mini Afro, you’re not gonna be able to tell…PEACE&LUV👑
