You asked for more knitting videos, so here we are! Come with me as I cut into a cardigan that took me 5 months to knit.
My Very First Steeks turned out reasonably successfully, but more than that I was able to feel the fear and still do the thing!
For more information about the supplies I used in this video see below:

You're a very brave woman, Claudia. If anyone needs me, I'll be in the corner, quietly praying to the knitting gods to never let me fall in love with a pattern that requires steeking.

I love how this video felt like knitting support group! Most relatable youtube crafter right here.

I watched this whilst knitting in bed and I got irrationally afraid that my yarn was going to break 😂 Well done on your steek, I hope to one day be brave enough to try it!

As a non-knitting, American crocheter, that was nerve-wracking to watch, so I can only imagine your nerves! Bravo!

Congratulations! I would have needed a knitting buddy to walk me through that process for sure! You are super brave

Steeks are hardcore! As a fellow knitter, I admire your courage in taking that step. Go you!!!!

I haven't done any "feral fair isle" in so long. That's a beautiful pattern.

Hi, I don't think I could do it, and yes it will run side ways, brave women I was holding my breath just watching you cut the threads. I'm knitting my self a jumper for next winter, I'm quite slow at knitting, crocheting is much quicker.

Steeking is a stressful concept. I've made one test swatch/coffee cup cosy but have yet to find *the* garment to make me want to try it seriously. The Sinister Catdigan has come close but I'm still waffling on whether or not it is a little bit too novelty for my everyday style

Great job! I find knitting so much easier than crocheting. I've always been so nervous when it comes to crocheting so I can only imagine how nerve wracking this must have been!

Very brave. I didn't trust crochet for my first steek so machine stitched it to be sure. Mind you I was using Blue-Faced Leicester yarn which is not considered to be sticky enough to hold by itself.

I think I will machine sew in future too if nothing else it may save my nerves!

Congrats on your first steeks! I think the other option would be to use a sewing machine to secure the stitches prior to cutting, but it looks like your crochet method worked just fine 😃

I sort of wish I had done that! I'm a much better machinist than crocheter. I religiously followed the pattern instructions because I was so nervous!

I'm soon going to start my first knitting project with steeks in it and I'm so excited! I think Alice Starmore does them differently in her patterns though? She doesn't crochet them at least, I don't know why
@RetroClaude
@RetroClaude 3 года назад
Possibly? I'm sure there are more techniques than this one. I followed the instructions that came with the Yell pattern but if I'm ever doing this again I may choose a different technique. Good luck with your steeks! 💚

Fun video :) I just can't understand why is steeking generally considered so scary! ;) I mean, if you've ever cut any fabric with scissors, it's not that different to cutting knitted fabric...
@RetroClaude
@RetroClaude 3 года назад
For me it's just the number of hours knitting takes. If I cut the wrong place that's it!
