In this video the whole canoe comes together with all her component. We mount the bulkheads, alas, deck, drive well, daggerboard case, etc. etc. and we load her up to head back to Florida where we finish her off with a beautiful paint job. If you would like us to let you know when the plans or kit is available for this boat sign up for our Talullah Canoe specific email list here tulasendlesssu...

A couple of notes about building the foam amas, from the guy who had to fair them: It should not be that hard! Coming off the CNC machine, the assembled blanks should have been quick and easy to fair. Maybe an hour or two of fairing the pink foam-and not "by eye!"-and not too much fairing putty. But we did it wrong. The blanks milled by the CNC machine are what you'd call "buttock lifts." Sometimes those are the right choice for a given shape, but not in this case. "Waterline lifts" or "section lifts" (or a combination of both) would have been the difference between a few hours of fairing and the long week the work actually took. (Future kit builders of this design will benefit from our mistake.) An obvious question: Why didn't we do ALL of the ama shaping on the CNC machine? Chesapeake Light Craft's machine could, in fact, mill the amas to something like a 120-grit finish. But no matter how fancy a machine you have, you can only move a cutting bit so fast through foam, and we were looking at several DAYS of milling to do that. We calculated that starting from a "lift model"-very quick to cut- and doing a bit of old-school fairing would be quicker. Got that one wrong. Not my first and certainly not my last mistake! More analysis of the design and build on my blog: www.clcboats.com/life-of-boats-blog/Talulah_Sailing_Outrigger.html

Ah shoot Sierra that sucks! I have "the bug" too! I became sensitized to epoxies when building snowboards commercially many many years ago! Typically you will react in the same places so it is pretty easy to spot that you have been exposed. In your cases, you'll start ti get itchy around your eyes, in my case, I have a spot near my hairline (when it is really bad, my arms flair up as well), despite the point of contact being somewhere else. The good news is, that with caution and good preparation, you can still work with epoxy without a flare up. The big things to consider are, no bare skin, or stay covered as much as possible, and definitely keep wearing the respirator and goggles. Always change clothes after handling epoxy and wear a "fresh" set of clothing every time you work with it (put the dirty stuff directly in the wash), never clean up any epoxy with a solvent that can soak into your skin, if you get some on you clean the area with vinegar followed by warm soapy water. I wear multiple pairs of gloves, preferably the kind that have the longer length over the wrist. My wrists have such deep scarring that I am missing splotches of pigment, all because I would accidentally touch bare skin when taking off my gloves. Oh and another thing to consider is epoxy is "green" for much longer than it takes to get hard to the touch, it depends on the epoxy and hardener you are using but that can be from 3-5 days, sometimes longer. That means that despite being hard to the touch, you can still react to the epoxy because it hasn't fully cured. The dust from sanding is particularly pernicious because it gets down in your pores and is then really hard to get out of your skin. Since becoming sensitized, I have built a 10 foot nesting dinghy with my wife and a pretty cool 7 foot wooden surfboard, as well as handled projects on our 35 foot sailboat that needed epoxy/glass, all without any issues. Or well, without serious issues. Be careful, and be safe, but always have fun! And sorry for the novel!

I've watched the entire build. What a beautiful job. I've been watching you two for years now. My dad and I build a 7.5 foot SK (ski hull with deck, not a dinghy) when I was young. We put a 16hp Merc on it with a quick silver racing lower unit. We clocked it at 40 MPH. I pulled my 10 year old brother water skiing with it. He would start on double skis and drop one to ski on a single rski. My grandkids have the boat now. We built it a few years ago (1965) LOL! If you are like me, you will never forget this. I remember it all. Oak frames, marine plywood, learning to fiberglass, bronze screws. Old style, no carbon. Have fun with the new family member. Teach the grandkids to sail many many years from now! I'm looking forward to seeing the new boat when you take delivery.

Sierra could try Honeywell North® 7600 Series Full Facepiece Respirators To keep the dust/ fumes off her face and a hazmat suit. No fun but protection is called for. I have seen people use a low pressure air pump to supply air to a suit . To keep you cool .🤔 This is a wonderful canoe full of fun.

Each grommet on the sail should be individually fastened to the mast and boom so if one fails you still have the rest. You should use a small diameter line with a cover that protects the core from UV. I would suggest using dyneema/vectran opti sail tie. Double loop it around the mast and through the grommet and finish with a square knot. Then put a dab of super glue in the middle of the knot. Love the content. Best of luck.

Very good to see you guys working with CLC - John is a very interesting guy and their designs are anything if not intriguing. John designed and build a proa "Madness" and it would have been nice to see the entire build. These kits go together like a jigsaw puzzle, and although it takes quite a few hours to build even a small kayak, they actually looks like it would be fun to build. That trimaran should sail very well!

Yes it is a good idea for you two to have an EpiPen for your travels because you go to so many remote places and even places that have doctors but still your out diving and hiking in places that do have things you may have never been exposed to . So the pen could well save a life yours or somebody else. If you do get a pen then just be very aware that they expire and that is no good. So you have to keep track of that. I think you both should take a coarse in how to start an IV and then at least keep saline solution on board should one of you not be able to get fluids down . Once you know how to start an IV it really makes giving fluids and injections much easier . A M.D. can advise you on what drugs you should have on board including how much IV fluids you would need should one of you or both of you two getting something while your far out to sea

I sure hope Tula has not become sensitized to epoxy. I became sensitized about 50 years ago after accidently letting it dry on my wrists.. I had worked with epoxy for about a year before that with no issues. I can never touch wet epoxy again or I'll break out with the worst rash, again. Theh rash, which itches like hell, breaks out on the skin whereever it wants to, not necessarily where you came in contact with the epoxy. Good luck - it's a nasty, nasty rash..
