Not bad. I’m a 20 year structural tech. If you have questions feel free to reach out. I can show you some tips and tricks. Also since you’re a tool guy, get a tram gauge. Couple hundred bucks and it will save you. Alldata has all the top opening dimensions.

I need to change the lower tier bar on mine because i hit a going a little too fast and it bent it. Now the skid plate won’t bolt on. Any advice on changing it and what to look for while down there?

The spot weld drill bits/cutters sure can save time and trouble. Even the cheap ones from Zon will last through a small job or two. About 12 bucks for a set.

Great work. Please use some weld through primer prior to welding those front bits on as they love to rust there.

Not nitpicking, I’m couple mins in and another YT channel (vehcor) would recommend scribing on the right side before grinding and prying that plate off. No biggie, I’m an armchair expert and that bent core support is effecting my OCD

Hello, nice video. I have a 2011 Forester that I'm conidering buying in good shape, but inspection report indicates radiator support (bottom) is rusty and needs replacement. Anybody know what the cost would be typically at a shop ?

At 85k miles, I wonder if the timing belt needs to be changed. Not sure if you were going to do this since you are replacing the cover but since you are already in there, I would swap it out. Is there any other stock part that you might consider replacing since it is an STI and does have higher mileage?

I just can't understand why so many spot welds and small little pieces that come together. Why can't it just be a simple bolt on process lol. Radiator support job takes hours.
@Thisoldhiker
@Thisoldhiker 8 месяцев назад
The bolts get the parts in the right place to weld, while the welds provide the structural integrity and rigidity for crash safety. Some carmakers, I believe including Subaru, also use structural adhesives in body assembly.

Side note, how much did your hands hurt wielding a small Sawzall like that for that much? I recommend the bigger size and thick gloves. You'll hurt less. Ask me how I know.

First time iv seen you working indoors (apart from on engines), absolute traitor to us driveway mechanics 😂 subaru do love a spot weld, when i rebuilt mine i spent more time drilling out spot welds than i did ripping apart the donor and rebuilding mine!
@jakegackle7398
@jakegackle7398 7 месяцев назад
I have always drilled spot welds, when necessary. I've never tried sanding them. I never really worried if it penetrated the metal behind since it's just going to get welded anyways. This does seem like it leaves a cleaner surface when removed though. I may try that if I ever run into the circumstance of popping spot welds again, especially if it's something visible. Nice.

I have a question not related to this video. Do you know of or have a recommendation for TPMS for a 2014 Forester? Ours are original with 274+ K on her. I want to change all 4 but they are around $80. each, $62 on Subaru Parts Deals. Thank you.

Can’t wait to see the 18-21 front end on there. Definitely go with a KoYoRad while you’re at it! Maybe a GetADom Cylinder 4 mod to keep it cool and reliable? Might as well do that before filling it back up with coolant.

Carbide burrs are MUCH easier than a mini belt sander, for removing spot welds. Drills work really good too. The belt sander was just weird.
