Okay, this is helpful and useful and all. However as much as I did get to learn from this video I also did not get the answer I was actually seeking. I can cut(as in when it actually gets to it). However I find myself always standing in one place waiting to see if I should go or someone else will. So my question is how do I know when to cut, becuase I have found in the past that I have been bumping into teammates trying to also cut. So if you could make/link me to a comprehensive guide on how to know when to cut in Ultimate it would be great. Great video btw.

Hey Lazy Bear, I'm a coach for my college team and I've been going over this exact question with them and trying to teach them this timing as this is one of the skills that tends to be developed through gametime experience and not as much taught in a specific way. There are lots of scenarios on when this timing should happen on the field (vert or ho stack, where you are on the field, what position you are in the stack, etc) but I'll give you the example I've been teaching my team. You're running a vert stack with the handlers starting at the brick. You are the last person in the stack, and you want to get open for an underneath pass. The handler starting with the disc is at the brick and the other handler is on the force side (lets say forcing righty forehand). The handler with the disc throws it to his/her other handler. When you see that the first handler is about to throw it, THIS IS WHEN YOU SHOULD START YOUR INITIAL RUN. Keep going until you see that the second handler is catching the disc. When you see the second handler actually catch the disc, THIS IS WHEN YOU SHOULD CUT TOWARDS THAT HANDLER. From there if you are open they can hit you with that underneath pass, (1:26-1:34 in the video) or if they don't think that you are open then they can PUMP-FAKE you and you can CUT DEEP. Learning the timing of good cutting is all about watching where the disc is moving on the field, and setting yourself up to get open for the person ABOUT TO CATCH THE DISC, not trying to force your way open for the person who is already holding the disc. This idea can be applied to a lot of different offenses and situations, you just have to start looking for that NEXT PASS. I hope this helps!

Frank Ontaneda All-right thank you for the example. I guess I can try and study some better players doing it and see how and when to cut myself.

Lazy Bear what works for me is, my team and I commit before the point to weather who goes first, second or third And so when the first person makes a short cut, the second would make a far cut. The only problems with this is that opportunities by people that are second cutters cannot happen, e.g. The marker was too slow to catch up to the stack, because the first cutter and the second would go into the same space. It also becomes somewhat predictable if the point goes on for some time

These are good drills but I can just image someone clogging up the lane making 300 cuts to drop a defender.

Really well done however a good defender from another sport like soccer will never allow the shoulder cut to happen
