This machining process is called "broaching " Each tooth on that cutter he was holding is a little bigger than the one before it therefore it cuts a little more. This is how internal splines are made.
Huh. That's the only way I could think of for mass machining all those internal angles. Glad I was right. Also, replying to a comment from 10 years go. Huh again.
@@htomerif I just learned how internal splines were made a week ago, and today started I started thinking about keyways. I figured the same thing, it has to be. And I get to this video, and there's an 11 year old comment that's been waiting for me, just so I can feel dumb. Haha
great video. I suspected this was done by broaching - but in high production situations, do they still do individual cores? How are the key blanks cut? Do you have a video for that?
