I may have bitten off a LOT more than I can chew by deciding to replace the entire floor pan on my 1979 pontiac firebird formula, but there's no going back now.

Good job dude, take your time and get all that rust cleaned up and use rust encapsulator on the old stuff.

Been putting por-15 everywhere I can. I should have cut more of the floor out in retrospect but this is my first real major rot repair so you live and you learn. With weather being good again I got to work on it today for the first time since November, starting wiring now. Should be running/driving in a month or so

Good shit bro! Did you have any problems with the inner rocker panels? Have a 79 Camaro with rocker panels that have a bit of corrosion. Don’t want to replace em but also needing to replace the pan
@OlsonAuto
@OlsonAuto 2 года назад
My rockers were actually very solid. I’m finishing my floors with por-15 in a week or so once I get my holes for my seats fully drilled and mark out where my cage is going, but por-15 stops rust really well. Expensive, but worth it

Hey I got a 79 firebird that needs new pans. Where did you buy your pans?
@OlsonAuto
@OlsonAuto Год назад
Classic industries! Definitely recommend, and also would say to buy the WHOLE pan front to back, with the little cross braces, would be much easier than what I did
@mitchboynunn
@mitchboynunn Год назад
@@OlsonAuto how would you go about that then? Cause in order to put the whole pan in I’d have to replace those braces I’m assuming. Cause the pan with have to be lifted from underneath. Idk. It’s my first project car so any help or advice you give is great. Found your channel cause of my car
@OlsonAuto
@OlsonAuto Год назад
@@mitchboynunn definitely would do the whole pan (depending how bad your floors are I suppose), chop it all out and then bring the new pan in from the bottom. I’d set a few measurement points to make sure your floor doesn’t end up higher or lower than it was stock.

Why did you cut off the side flanges that need to be spot welded to the iner rocker pannels?? And I will never use port 15 again did not hold up
@OlsonAuto
@OlsonAuto Год назад
Cut off the side flanges because I still had good floor around the edges so I laid it over the original and welded around it. In hindsight I would’ve done the WHOLE floor at once but you live and learn. I’ve had pretty good luck with the POR-15, but have you found a better product?
@gibsonexplorer8777
@gibsonexplorer8777 Год назад
@OlsonAuto yes epoxy primer port 15 you have to have everything perfectly kleenex and use a couple of other cleaners epoxy primer you need it clean but nothing else i had port 15 peel off and it was a new floor! You will get it I learn all the time

Random question, where did you order your full floor pan from? I need one for my Trans Am as well.
@OlsonAuto

I got mine from classic industries, fast shipping and dent free. I definitely recommend them. Shipping is pricey though

@@OlsonAuto Thanks man! Happen to have the part #? I’m having a hard time finding a full floor that doesn’t include the braces.
@OlsonAuto
@OlsonAuto 3 года назад
I honestly think you might be better to replace the braces too, it’d be easier than what I did. But, I bought each half, as linked in this comment, and then welded the seam in the middle www.classicindustries.com/product/all-years/pontiac/firebird/parts/153244.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvPPMuZuJ8wIVEZXICh3wQAH7EAQYBiABEgIWa_D_BwE

After doing these floors I will no longer be buying rotted vehicles lol, this absolutely sucked. I will say, buy the ENTIRE floor and install from the bottom, will be much easier. But yeah I don’t really work on other peoples cars
