CV Axle Removal and Installation Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX V6
This video shows you the steps that I took to install a CV axle in a 2010-2017 Chevrolet Equinox. This will also be the same process on a GMC Terrain as well as a Cadillac SRX 3.0/3.6 V6.A CV axle has flexible joints, these joints wear out, or seize from contaminants due to the protective boot tearing open. A worn joint is prone to breakage, or other hazards. This video will help you save money and is a very doable diy job. If you have questions, put them in the comments below and I will do my best to respond as soon as possible.

I had same problem with the strut. I did as you instructed and everything went together easy.
@Scott-ms5bb
@Scott-ms5bb Год назад
Wow. That strut/coil spring must had been under some tension. Good thing it did not strike a hand or face when it spun around that forcefully. That was an eye opener.
@DCAutoEnhancement
@DCAutoEnhancement Год назад
It wasn't too bad. The problem was that I didn't have both sides jacked up. The tension from the anti sway bar is what caused that. Good catch.
@Scott-ms5bb
@Scott-ms5bb Год назад
So the prybar and some love taps worked quickly to separate the axle from transmission? I don't like those set ups. Nissans on passenger side only don't have the pain of a c clip, instead axle goes thru a bracket that's enclosed in a bearing held on with 3 bolts. Everyone I did slid out like a hot knife cutting thru butter.
@DCAutoEnhancement
@DCAutoEnhancement Год назад
@@Scott-ms5bb that sounds much easier. I wish I could say it was as simple as it sounds. I wanted to make sure the viewer was aware of the mechanism that retains the shaft in the transmission to better understand why it is as difficult as it is and understand what is going on inside.

I suggest removing the sway bar link from the strut. To reinstall, jack it up from under the control arm and line it up. You do NOT need to lift both sides.

When I decelerate I can hear the metal clanking and the steering wheel starts to shake. Would you say that’s a symptom of bad cv axle? I checked tie rod and control arms and they’re still good
@DCAutoEnhancement
@DCAutoEnhancement 7 месяцев назад
@chrisogilvie2185 usually a bag CV axle you can hear clicking while turning. You could have a bad motor mount but that doesn't explain the steering wheel shake.

Does this repair include replacing a front axle shaft seal? Curious if it is necessary and a part number if so.
@DCAutoEnhancement
@DCAutoEnhancement 24 дня назад
@@snmccaskill14 it does not include the front axle seal. I didn't need to change it at this time.

Mine make two clicks when I accelerate and two clicks when I apply brakes. You think that’s cv axles?
@DCAutoEnhancement
@DCAutoEnhancement Год назад
Mine is doing something similar to that right now and I think I have determined that it is motor mounts. I recently replaced one cv axle and the other one seems to be in good condition.

What problem did you experience that you replaced the speed sensor?
@DCAutoEnhancement
@DCAutoEnhancement Год назад
I thought the service stabilitrak was caused by a bad speed sensor but it turns out, it was a wheel bearing with a broken reluctor ring (magnetic ring)

What your axle recommends or what brand is good and at a good price. I'm checking one out on eBay for a good price, but I don't know what it is like. Thanks. Good video.

If you want the best, most reliable axle, the dealership or genuine GM parts is probably going to be your best quality but most expensive (usually). If you have a NAPA auto parts store, they carry high quality parts at a better price than the dealer (usually). Also check out rockauto.com. As for me and online parts, I do usually buy online parts they are usually most cost effective but don't normally last as long as the previously mentioned sources. I buy them because I don't have to pay the labor and I don't mind working on my cars. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

will it be Cheaper just to take it to shop who rebuild axels !! its just a balls and new ruber dust cover

These days parts are cheap and labor is expensive. It might be worth checking into but it's quicker to buy the replacement and change it the part and get back on the road. Obviously these are just my opinion though.

When I lived in Miami I had a place that did just that of refurbishing my car’s factory CV joint. Now in Arlington, TX don’t know of such a place and don’t know a place happy to let me bring my own parts and install them for me at a nominal price. The cheapest I have found is $200 for both sides labor only. I will keep doing my own work because I can’t stand paying a day and a half of my work money so someone can take it away with 2 or 3 hour’s work. That hurts. Just that as I get older this gets harder. Getting up and down from the floor and bending over is pain from my back. Strength is getting worse too since I was a weakling to start with.
