705 Gang! 👊 I have an AH-705 to go with mine, but like you I've found that it's better to just deploy resonant antennas, so I don't use it much. The Gabil 7350 has been a good POTA antenna to use but I like your 17 ft whip idea as well. Would be excellent if you don't need the lower bands. DE NT7S

I think I may have figured out why the video lets one deal with the QSB better than actually being there. There still is some apparent QSB in the audio on the RU-vid video, though it's really not bad. I know what real QSB can be like, and it can be far worse than what I heard on the RU-vid video. But I think I noticed that the background noise went UP, not DOWN, when the Morse code went down. The AGC in the Icom IC 705 was trying to keep the signal up there when it faded, but not completely successfully. And if there is something like AGC also in your sound recording equipment (and I would think that for a camera, there would be) then when the signal faded down because the 705's AGC wasn't perfectly compensating for the real QSB, the AGC in the sound recorder would raise the gain (making it easier to hear the signal than what you heard on-site) and also cause the background noise to rise. And that's exactly what the background noise did, as far as I could tell. I only thought of this, and decided to check it by paying attention to the background noise instead of the CW signal, towards the end of the video, which I was watching and listening to at 1.75x speed, but tomorrow when I'm less tired I'm going to listen again, at 1x speed or maybe even slower and if I'm right, the background noise rising will be a lot more apparent than it was this evening. You might try listening to the background noise yourself. Of course the AGC in the transceiver would have the same effect on the background noise. I guess that if you can quickly defeat and then re-engage the AGC in the sound recording apparatus while making a future recording when there is bad QSB, you might be able to see if my idea is correct. I wish I could follow along. I essentially know the chr's but still stuck with x/7 Farnsworth. Currently doing 12/7 to practice QSO's and hope to one day match 12/8 for LICW Beginner 1. In a odd spot since I kinda know chr's but need time to process/translate them.
