Hands down to one of the greatest teams to ever step on 22 yards "Team Australia" they don't have Gods, kings,prince and Hitman in their team rather 11 genuine match winners who can win world cup 🔥 Take a bow Australia 👑 6th world cup trophy 🙏

I wish people would talk more about the fielding and the intent from the OZ team. The amount of pressure it adds in batters when near guaranteed 4's become 0's. I think that was the key component in imposing intent on the Indian team.

There's something wrong with the prevailing narrative if we keep talking down a team, thinking they are underdogs - but they keep winning. The guys are right, this is the best team Australia have had since that dominating side of the late 90's-mid 00's. A golden team as DJ described them, but they aren't really recognised as such for some reason, despite being perhaps more successful than the earlier team.

Aussie fan here. Excellent discussion and analysis. India were, without a doubt, the team of the tournament, but Australia were the team of the final. Cummins' tactics were perfect throughout the game. Australia (as they generally do) lifted in the finals. You can tell from the display in the field against South Africa in the semi, they had gone to another level and had that belief. India gave Australia a sniff, and the Australian mentality is so ruthless that that is all it takes. They sink their claws in and never let go.

Cummins talked about "making the crowd go quiet" and that the "boys wanted to be out there" (read: bowl first) and then came that Head catch. Nothing is more austalian then those 3 things. Australia has won ODI series in India in the last couple of years. Add to that we rarely play our starting 11 unless its the world cup. Yet we are still underdogs. Ask any Aussie who watches cricket they would say the group stage doesnt matter, you win 6 or 5 games and you are in the semi final. There are enough teams struggling that it makes it easy.The important thing is that by the time you win your 5th or 6th game you should be able to name your starting 11 for the semi final. Then its a completely new tournament. All this "India got the better team on paper" is the biggest mental gymnastics i have ever seen. A team that hasn't won any ICC trophies for a decade and some how is talked up like the all conquering West Indies team from the 70s and we are some minnows who got lucky.

I'm an Australian. I'm completely awestruck by what the Oz team did to pull the game out of the fire when , at 3-47, I thought we were probably toast. I ended up going to bed when Australia just passed the 100 mark. I expected to awake to an Indian victory and, to be honest, I was totally fine with that. I DID NOT expect to see we had won. Full credit to the Cummins led team for believing ( and of course Travis Head who set the gold standard starting with THAT CATCH) . Part of me also grieves for the Indian team and nation who had their heart set upon this title. For what it's worth, throughout the tournament I really enjoyed witnessing the absolute joy that the Indian spectators bring to the cricket stadiums. Unbridled enthusiasm and love. It was a treat to behold. Thanks also for the balanced analysis by this panel. All the best for the next one, seriously.

Okay 1st thing - Congratulations to India for hosting the event and the performances as a nation leading up to the final. It was simple an incredible event and India should be proud of this, the culture and event itself and the direction they are going in. India (greatly admired by all Aussies) are just full of superstars and all of them are lorded where they go. HOWEVER - you are playing against Australia and seriously it’s beyond just talent - Australia are gritty and fight with their entire being, are confident and don't under-estimate them. This played out as it did as Aussies in Finals "Show Up". Hard to beat in any competition. Thanks but that’s just it!

I will add that despite the 10 straight wins, it was not all a total crush of the opposite team. Match 1 AUS did have India at 0/ 3 right , but they were able to come back that day. Eng did bowl India out for 229. So I think there were kinks in the whole . India does deserve credit for beating SA and NZ in the league stage. Other than AUS the remaining teams, PAK, BAN, AFG,SL and NL were never really going to be a threat.Even the Semi Final against NZ was not a cake walk, I mean batting second NZ did cross 300 and at one point they were on par to go the distance

I think India played on all flat wickets like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru with Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Dutch, and all tough or average (ICC) pitches with bigger teams like lakhnow, Chennai, and Kolkata with England, Australia, and South Africa and with Pakistan they got initial partnership which was scary tbh but they crumbled like a pack of cards and so India won that. india played all the matches with teams on advantage and the only team that was close was New Zealand which was Dhamshala and we won just because of Virat Kohli. So now if we say that this was the best team then sorry the pitch was in our favor.

I don’t think Australia wanted to win more than India. They turned up knowing that they had to play out of their skin to beat India and fielding could make a huge difference. Their experience allowed them to keep a lid on things without panicking when Rohit came out blasting. India turned up knowing they were the better team feeling that they had to keep doing what they were doing. Not saying they were complacent or feeling entitled but they had to not make mistakes and stay calm and be clinically. If Australia had been over psyched this approach would have worked for India. Cummins’ every tactical moved worked. Rohit’s didn’t but you could see a reason for every one of 5hose tactical moves.

Hi Guys, Aussie here. Just watched your analysis and have to say it is so balanced and fair even though you are obviously disappointed. I firmly believe India did not choke, Australia just played a near perfect game, with some luck in winning the toss. I fully expected India to win and was surprised how the outcome went. India will dominate cricket going forward, it is inevitable. However Australia have had a 150 years as being either top an near top and that culture you all saw in the final is ingrained. Commiserations, however the future of Indian cricket is bright. I just hope we can continue to challenge you going forward.

India just didn’t back themselves. As an Australian fan, I’ve never ever seen Kohli bat the way he did in ODIs. Too cautious. Once they started to play like a test match you could see Australia gain confidence Australia were also down 3 wickets early. But the Australian response was to back their game plan. They had confidence because Maxwell was still to come and he generally plays well in big matches Whereas India lost 3 wickets and lost trust in the batting to come

Another Aussie fan. India was the best team overall. Australia have not been playing their best. It was unfortunate for India, but Australia put it together in the big match. I don't know why India didn't play more spinners and have a spinning pitch. Australia is really bad at playing spin and Ashwin is our nemesis. I wonder if they will regret that. I love the Aust. v India rivalry and long may it continue. It will be interesting when Warner and Smith and a few others retire. There don't seem to be obvious replacements. India seems to have lots of good players waiting in the wings.
@bellabana
@bellabana 10 месяцев назад
Australia outplayed India. They had a game plan and strategy set to go. They’d analyzed and researched the pitch statistics and concluded that bowling first would be best because later the dew would make it easier to bat. They were aggressive in the field, they rotated the bowlers often making it harder for India to get a rhythm going and that’s what happened when India lost 3 wickets. They then restricted the batters, India hitting only one 4 in 90 balls. Australia quickly made runs so when they lost 3 wickets they were still able to keep calm anf play aggressive cricket with Head and Marcus holding down the other end. What’s ironic is that India chose the pitch, they got what they wanted yet they didn’t do their own research on the pitch and conditions and it backfired against them. Australia are 6 times World Cup Champions for a reason.

Everyone thought going into the finals that India had no weaknesses but that they'd be fearing playing Australia because they know how to win. Maxwell showed that one Australian could change the course of an innings just like Waugh and Warne did in 1999. Feel for India but the lesson is you can't count your chickens until they hatch. Virat is amazing as was Sachin but sometimes you need more than that. The best thing was that India made Australia work for it unlike Pakistan in 1999. Sadly for India they have under achieved. Home final, great players and perfect tournament before the final. 2023 and 1999 have a lot in common for Australia. Will 2023 make or break India?

The fact you are angry, annoyed and upset is fantastic for Indian cricket and world cricket. Indian cricket is the beacon for cricket everywhere. Your striving always to improve by playing competitive, entertaining cricket, will eventually rule the world. It is not India's time just now. I for one, are more excited watching Indian cricket and especially against Australia, than any other cricket including the Ashes. I recall what the Australian women's soccer player said about winning. Sam Kerr said soccer is about moments. The moments are created by the team and the team who best capitalizes on the moments, wins. Cricket is the same and India did not create enough moments. They were beaten by a better team on the day. The first time India was bowled out in the competition. It should be said, with the strength of Australia's batting, it would be a small challenge to ask them to score at just over four runs an over. The Indian bowling had to strangle the scoring and we're unable to. Congratulations to India, worthy of being in the final. They will be so hungry now to win the next WC, it will be fascinating.🇭🇲

That's very well said. Plus India didn't even play bad, which is why I think many Indians are hurting, they actually played well in the final.....It's just that Australia played much better on the night......India was the best team all series by the length of Steve Smith's shadow batting sessions.........They played a solid final and still somehow Australia, who only woke up halfway into the 3rd match of their tournament (and even then were shaky even when they won......a lot of individual performances) Dominated India on the final night. Like I get why the Indians are sad, disappointed and angry.....But that is the way sport goes.....The favourite doesn't always win........Sometimes 66-1 underdogs win.......(not that this was the case this match)

Look at Hockey , kabaddi, Javelin, etc. Now we are no more dependent on just cricket to search happiness, there are other sports as well we can cheer and cherish. And the way our cricket team has performed by dominating 10 matches on biggest stage of world cup is no less than a champions stuff. Indian cricket team is champion and we now back them to achieve much more like we have an upcoming test matches in SA where we never won a test series so looking forward to that as well.

for India to qualify for knockouts for most of the time in ICC events for past decade they haven't won any championship, quite baffling. This was playing on the minds of Rohit and team as they were seen trying to doctured the pitches in semis and final. Only if they had concentrated on their game and remain positive in their heads the results would have been different for India. Now, that India have lost they have made to feel stupid for tampering with the pitch. They were hell bent on seeking whatever advantage before the first ball was bowled. The world had grudge for BCCI and Indian team well before the tournament started for their high handedness because of the financial domination they have in cricket. Once Australia saw the pitch for final being doctured they were more determined to win. For Australians this victory is sweet. They have not only defeated India on field, they have defeated the BCCI and people of India.

For me, I hate that we lose to you in nearly every Border Gavaskar series and haven't won in India since like 2003~ So remember the good moments, remember that you still have a good lineup, T20 world cup is coming up in less than a year. I mean there is always plenty of cricket. I follow a sport called AFL, my team often makes the finals and Grand Final, but loses at or near the end.......I had to learn to cope with it, this year we finally won it, it will come, India is a strong Cricketing nation now, they have good foundations, the next batch of players will come through and you'll be back and fighting in the next world cup (I hope there is one).

It is one of the wonders of the sporting world how India can never win nothing, yet always see themselves as the best team in the world, and their players as the absolute best in their slots. @bundyboy65
@bundyboy65 11 месяцев назад
Finally someone else sees the problem, self-created by India. You portray yourselves as the best team in international cricket with individual players that are idolised by fans rather than supported as a team. At the same time you feel the need in the first test of the last Indian series that you openly doctor the pitch to deal with all the left handers in Australia's top order. That's not a winning mentality. It was also such a sad fact to see so many Indian supporters in that stadium that 20 overs into the Aussie innings were virtually silent or on the way out of the gates. Supporting your team needs to happen through thick or thin, and further, failing to acknowledge Head's century, one of the greatest innings in an ODI W.C. final was very poor form. You were ripe for the picking in the final and the result offered very little shock to this Aussie supporter.

No Indian Player can hit sixes on length ball.....Most Balls are length balls...... 1)We need to adapt English and Aussie style of Hitting 2)Fitness is worst among our players except few..... 3)I would second Imam ul haq on protein intake instead of Carbs 4) Average height of Indian batsmen is 5'8 whereas that of English/Aussie is 6'0 ... Not the sport of boy who came from poor Indian background who never have protein diet....... 5)all 6 batsmen of England can hit centuries at strike of above 150 6)Indian bowling is good but we dont have that 145+ bowlers 7) We cannot match fielding of Eng/Aus/SA/NZ.....The effort of Aus in fielding in Final 2023 was spectular.... 8)Our Decision about pitch went badly wrong....how was So smart Rahul Dravid and Rohit and team management was not able to read pitch......we had mindset of Wankhede on Ahmedabad pitch.......300-320 was enough runs.....To score 350+ rohit and gill got out Kohli and Rahul got out beacuse they too had 350+ in their mind.....These are all antecedents of the thought Of Rohit to bat first even of we would have won the toss..... Great podcast. DJ bhai, I will disagree with you about farming the strike point about SKY. When you are clearly a batter short, then farming ought to happen earlier than ordinary. I think in the previous semi-final Miller showed how you ought to take calculated risks in dire situation, something that KL could have taken a leaf out of. Further, I think the spinners were ineffective because we had the dew in 15 overs. I think also that Rohit was ok with his captaincy because he thought that it should be taken as a 40 over game if India were to win (that also probably resulted in despondent body language once Head started scoring quickly). My point is that the ICC knockouts should not be a D/N affair if the WC happens where dew is a strong possibility (e.g. India), it just makes toss much more significant than it already is. Would love to have your thoughts about it. Best, Ajey

Number one Psychological pressure in knockouts, not giving chance to the bench like ishaan kishan when India was winning they should have tried new things to bring the X factor. Second, the pitches they seemed to working for India in this WC they should have been given venues like this with slower pitches in group stages.

I think we made an improvement by beating NZ in the SF, definitely. However, it just goes to show that AUS are a different gravy altogether. How they handle their cricket on and off the field along with their team selections and injury management is just way above our league. It's better to get all that process right before expecting the team to outperform teams like Australia. 🥲🥲 As Indians we've the knack of creating miracles out of chaos, but I guess it doesn't work in such a long tournament. Thanks guys, you guys sum up the emotions of a passionate Indian fan. However I was surprised that you guys didn't touch upon the elephant in the room. Indian team managements desperation to win so badly that they tired their best to get the conditions on their side by doctoring pitches. By giving a shit pitch in the finals they made it so lop sided towards the team batting second. Taking away the shot making ability from batters in first half and bowlers pace and bounce in second. Did we needed to do that with team like ours? If we were truly deserving, we would prepared a true wicket and let it be the shoot out of pure skills. Also, is India in this season, good for day-night ODI's? Dew in the second half and complete change of conditions makes the toss so important in most cases. See if you guys can do a podcast taking up these points.
