I only caught a distant glimpse of both Lancs back in 2014. There are no thanks enough, to thank our family of Canada for sharing VERA with her UK family. It's easy for people to be critical that PA474 cannot return the favour.....the costs, regulations and logistics are massive. Technically, PA474 is on charge with the RAF.....and flying hours are limited. Maybe, one day......"Just Jane" can return the compliment. So glad Vera got home safely.....bless her, her crew and all that support her. ❤🇬🇧❤🇨🇦❤
Thumper and Vera are in love. Its so beautiful. Thanks Canada, when they both flew over the derwent damn it was a historical moment. Clear and Kootenay skies for you.x
Fantastic to see VERA over here in the U.K. its been an amazing few weeks, and it was a privilege to attend many of the events. Thanks to everyone involved who made this historic visit possible.Very emotional to see you home and safe.
Thanks to Canada for letting us borrow Vera for those few weeks --- made for a special summer --- 2 swallows don't make a summer ---But 2 Lancasters certainly did.
Please thank the VeRA Crew for there wonderful displays they gave us in the UK Lest we forget the 55000 crews of bomber command who did not return home
I went to Hamilton for a flight in Vera 10 years ago and it was great to go and see both ĺancasters when they landed at Bournemouth Airport a few years later. I sneaked round the back to see them both close up and bumped into Don Schofield who remembered me.
Thanks for posting this Shane! These fine gentlemen can finally put their feet up! I have been following this memorable adventure every step of the way from the day they left Hamilton right through till today when they arrived home, even though I live in Durban, South Africa. Well done chaps and well done VERA!
A wonderful achievement, and so very brave. Vera was loved here, a great 'Lady'. I was fortunate enough to see her in the Hamilton museum during a visit to Canada; it was in June, and I spoke to the crew about the then--planned UK visit. P Croft
Fabulous love sound of the Rolls Royce engines . Havnt had pleasure of seeing one fly personally. My Uncle qas a Sergeant and Flight Engineer on a Lanc . He didn't come home like so many.
A strangely emotional video of a great homecoming. It was great to see her in the skies this summer in the UK and doubly good to see her and the crew touch down safely on home soil. What a huge achievement. Here are a few pictures of her on tour: flic.kr/s/aHsk2Y4CUc
What a marvellous sight, I really hope that you had a good time over in the Uk and sincerely hope that one day the favour can be returned and you all have the pleasure of hearing and seeing Vera in company with either Just Jane or City of Lincoln sometime very soon. The videos are great but they don't do this justice.
Fitting tribute to the young men who fought and died for our freedom. Bomber command monument near Hyde park has been defaced for a second time sadly. I understand these machines destroyed German cities and that upsets some but London was also being destroyed with thousands dying and so something had to be done about that. My mother was nearly killed by a V1, Germany had to be stopped.
Shane, This is by far the best video I've seen of this special time in the history of the remaining airworthy Lancasters. I was fortunate enough to be at the Canadian Heritage warplane museum in Hamilton Ont. on Aug.4th/5th when VeRA left for England. I took some amateur videos with my ipad and put together a short vid to add to our collection in our group facebook page: facebook.com/groups/1025845207489469/ If you are interested in having the "front end of the story added to yours please feel free to contact me and i will provide you with a copy and raw footage and photos for editing --- Thank you for sharing your excellent videos Best wishes, JC
Think about it---with a flight of that distance and all the flying programme's that had been planned (and achieved) with a huge back-up team; they would have planned for every possible contingency with the RAF, especially engine replacement, whatever the deal, it would have been agreed long ago.
soaringtractor fuck off you idiot, the Canadians made a great sacrifice for freedom and democracy, don't let anything take that away from the young lads from all empire and now commonwealth countries that fought and died, sometimes horribly for the freedom of the world, yes I know Americans died also, only when they had to! Happy to take our gold and let us bleed out, I am lucky to have many American friends, mostly that I have served alongside and I respect them, you, I do not! You have never known real fear, until you do your just a troll,
Are they training younger pilots to fly Vera that crew looked very very old it would be a shame if shes grounded in ten years for a lack of flight crew.
…..and there was me thinking that Canadians were more civilised than yanks…. What’s with all the wooping ? if they’d only shut up they’d hear what they came for .😎
