🚨 𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆: 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝. 🚨 Don't call it a "Saturday morning cartoon." This ain't no swim in the kiddie pool. This is Japanese animation or "anime." Welcome to Saturday Anime on the Sci-Fi Channel.
This is a compilation video I put together using footage of commercials that played on Sci-Fi Channel in the year 1997 along with a Japanese anime movie that didn't play on Sci-Fi Channel to the best of my knowledge. It is loosely based off Sci-Fi Channel's Saturday Anime block that would air starting at 9 in the morning (although times may have varied) on Saturdays from the years 1995 to 1999. Think of it as a retro remix or a bootleg television broadcast.
This is the one hundred seventh television compilation video I've uploaded, and the fifth I've made on Sci-Fi Channel. I originally made this video back in January (along with a bunch of other videos) when I had a ton of free time, and planned to upload it sometime in late February. Last year, I'd said I wouldn't make Saturday Anime videos because I didn't think they'd be that unique versus the real thing, which you can see on RU-vid (links below). Then when the new year rolled around, I thought to myself, "Well, if I use anime that Sci-Fi Channel didn't show but was similar to the stuff they did show, that would be pretty unique and original." Surprise! It turns out I wasn't the only one who had this idea, and the channel Recreation Station also started making Saturday Anime videos, including one featuring Cyber City Oedo 808 (also known as サイバーシティ OEDO 808 in Japanese). These things happen when you make similar types of videos. Sometimes you make a video that's similar to something someone else has already done, or they do the same to you. It's all good. But at the same time I didn't want to step on anyone's toes or steal anyone's thunder, so I pushed this video back until I could figure out what to do with it. I've ultimately decided, instead of scrapping this video, I'd upload it while also shouting out Recreation Station. As for the video itself, that parental advisory isn't a joke. There's a lot of bad words in this video. Obviously Sci-Fi Channel would have censored them out, but I kept them in because they're a part of the fun and a part of what makes this one so bad it's good. Cyber City Oedo 808 is one of those animes I rented and watched in the 90's when anime was just starting to really take off in America, and it occupies a special place in my heart. Hopefully that tumor is benign. Well, with all that out of the way, enjoy the show!
If you enjoyed this video, please check out Recreation Station. Their channel has made a lot of incredible Saturday Anime recreations as well as other similar videos: / channel
The channel Orbital Bacon has also posted some great 80's/90's anime before, so if you're into that you should check him out: / @orbitalbacon

Disclaimer: I do not make any money or accept any donations for these videos. I make them in my free time as a hobby, out of a love for old television, and because they're the kinds of videos I would like to be able to watch on RU-vid. If you see RU-vid ads (not commercials) on this video, that's because this video was copyright claimed by a variety of different companies, who chose to run ads on my video for their own profit. I also do not make these videos for children, but for adults like myself who are nostalgic for their childhoods. If the comments are disabled on this video or another like it, it's because RU-vid set it as "for children." And that's the end of that disclaimer.
