There are some Cyberpunk slang words you'll keep seeing throughout this series: cyberpsychosis - personality disorder that affects people who replace too much of their body with robotic parts - their mind can't keep up with the changes. nova - in this universe it can mean cool, awesome, dope preem - it's derived from "premium" and it has the same meaning as nova eddies - it's the short term for "eurodollars", the currency used by people choom - it means friend mma freeware - program that teaches you how to fight, or rather programs your robotic parts to perform fight moves. pack some chrome - it means replace some of your body parts with robotic parts, transitioning from organic to inorganic. 4:42 good catch, Magy! 6:00 that's the equivalent of a mobile phone, the slots on their neck, allowing people to interface with computer systems directly. The name is chipware sockets. 9:44 no insurance or low tier insurance means the trauma team which you have to pay a premium price for (the equivalent of medical units) doesn't even bother looking at you. 10:22 "You have to pay for everything" - that sums up the world of Cyberpunk perfectly, Magy. Well done! 13:18 this scene looks silly at first but it showcases how big of an advantage the "elite" of the society has over normal people. That spoiled brat beat the shit out of David because of the robotic parts he has installed (eyes, hands) and the fighting program he "learned". 15:00 everything in the world of Cyberpunk is about money and the privilege that comes with it. David, barely having any, is struggling hard. 17:45 Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Arcane and Castlevania is the holy trinity of animated series based on games. These 3 are by far the best. Excellent post reaction discussion, you understand this universe very well based on what you've seen so far. Thank you for the incredible reaction to this first episode ❤
I usually cringe at comments trying to overexplain the universe to people who haven't played the game, but this is actually concise and doesn't get lost in the weeds of basically just begging them to play the game/throwing so much information at them that it's not even informative anymore. You addressed their questions and gave a little context here and there to the stuff this episode doesn't quite explain. So good job lol
I would add that 'BD' means Brain Dance, which is basically used to experience what another has experienced, including sensations and sometimes emotions, which in this case was Norris' experience shown at the start of the episode where he was finally killed.
"There are some Cyberpunk slang words you'll keep seeing throughout this series:" + AV (aerodyne vehicle("ay-vee")) - vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, often used by the super-rich, max-tac, trauma team. there are chassis for every purpose, e.g. armored, luxury max-tac - heavy special forces unit with advanced cyberware trauma team - emergency team, for customers with insurance BD or braindance - like vr, but in your head. you feel everything that the person recording has experienced XBD - rare fetish bd's with extreme content. the person recording often does not do this by choice and dies in the end. 2:52
Couple of things for you to note: This is based off of the videogame Cyberpunk 2077. And a fun note: The vast majority of the music, and nearly all of the vehicles and weapons are directly from that game.
They complement each other so well. I was anxious to play cyberpunk but I don’t have PC & I heard that it was bugged out on systems. So i finally started the game last week & idk how I came across the anime but I’m glad I did. I seen the “stay over your house” song & it hit my soul. Not to get dark here but I lost my little sister last November so this was huge a trigger for me. I started the anime today & I think I found a new genre for me😅
◇In fact, it's almost an ingenious cyberpunk action (as a game, not a genre) When I found out that Trigger studios would be announcing the series, I was a little upset, it seemed their branded visual would not fit at all with the style of the game. I'm glad I was wrong. Visually, everything is fine, also did a great job with the sound, the spirit of night city was already conveyed in the first episode.🌌 I immediately wanted to play CYRPNK2077 again and walk through the streets.😈 Now it's just a matter of plot and characters. The visual style is just right for the atmosphere, ragged drawing for active animation, everything is as ripper prescribed. I liked that the landscapes of the city are recognizable, and the sound is familiar to an incoming call, and the clothes on the characters - everything is canonical. I am pleased with the incredible number of references to the game and several interesting plot ties. I'm looking forward to the next reaction on this exciting action series. Thank you for your cyber-reaction!◇ 🔮👉🏻🦊👈🏻🔮
I sometimes run the game just to walk there randomly, listening to ads and pedestrians... I used to do that in GTA4 for years and now 2077 took that place in my heart
@@midnoite That's not even that, "prepare to cry" does not even imply that the anime is sad. There are many reasons why one could cry. It's even less of a spoiler than what he thought x)
We are heading into a future like this. Those who have the upper hand in our society are the people that have beauty, are rich and can defend themselves. I know what it means to not been seen and having less choice to get going in this world. I am afraid to say that this franchise is our future one day.
@@TrueThannyOh shut up man...this story takes place in an American setting and the dub is actually decent. I watch sub all the time but this is one of the few anime that I'll watch in dub...
I just started playing the game after going through the anime, and it's quickly become my favorite fictional universe, probably of all time. You ladies are in for a ride with this one!
As someone who was raised my a single mom who struggled to give me a better life only to have her life end too soon I absolutely know how David feels. Like the world just beats to a pulp until you can’t take it anymore. So I absolutely would do what David is about to do to that asshole bully.
Yea the writers captured Dave perfect. **SPOILER BELOW** Dave doing no matter what to save Lucy had me in tears at the end. My sister passed recently & I was states away and felt helpless. I remember getting in my car& just heading north, I didn’t pack or anything. I just thought I could get there and save her, or they identified the wrong body as my sister. She was in a state by herself as well so we could only go by the doctor’s words. My sister & I were always close but we got older & wasn’t always side by side anymore. But we still talked & we knew we would see each other again. Long story short, it didn’t happen that way & we went years without seeing each other. It’s crazy to say but even me seeing her, touching, hearing her voice one more time would’ve helped me😔. If I had one wish, I would give my life for hers. But I know she wouldn’t want that. 🧎🏾➡️😓Gone From Our Sight But Not From Our Hearts Ashley 🌹💔
My own first introduction to Cyberpunk was when I was 14. I was already into Roleplaying D&D with some friends (as well as a Game called Rifts - published by Palladium Games) ans one day we invited a new player into our group who had the Cyberpunk Rulebook. It was a very different game than we were used to and unfortunately we didn't really end up playing it all that much.
this was my first anime, and it kicked started my love for anime! i Fucking love this anime so much, tho the depression i get whenever i watch it still just has hard as the first time!
Omg...you're watching THIS series !?!? I played the game before the anime came out (and before the game patch). After the patch and DLC... I play with more vengeance at the main antagonists...😢... 😭😭😭
The events at the beginning are so-called braindance or BD, a complete recording of all human sensations with the help of an implant, with the possibility of further processing and viewing by third parties for the sake of thrills or other sensations. Raw recordings of cyberpsychosis and/or death are quite popular on the local black market, which is what our protagonist was watching
the cyberpunk from the start was not a game. it was a recording from a real incident that has happen in night city. so called BDs or Braindances can be craftet from a recording from someone that has a recorder installed. these are like pleasure-drugs or what you want on the streets. the technology to record everything someone "lives" exists in this World and EVERYTHING that comes from that is there too. if you are in a braindance you feel everything the producer or recorder has been felt, thats "good" p0rn stuff and can also be used to visit any places on earth or other worlds. also, its important that we understand Cyberpunk as a fomr of dystrophy, where corporations has more power than the state and everything is controlled by them together with highly advanced technology in biomechanic. it is no world in there somebody would like to live... because you die early and its expensive.
YEAH!! Imagine; Medicare owned by Corporations!!!! If you aren't a client you don't even get so much as TAKEN to a medical facility. You just get left in the street. That's some really shitty policy. Honestly it's only a matter of time before we start seeing that. I am GLAD I am Canadian. Just BEING Canadian gets me free health care from the moment I was born. Didn't have to apply for it or jump through any hoops.
Yeah, Canada has free Healthcare. But it has PLENTY of huge problems too. If you're being raped and pepper spray the rapist to stop him, you're getting jail time.
Oh man, here we go again 😢 Please please please don't drop this series. I've seen so many youtube react channels start this incredible series and drop it at like... episode 3, which is nothing but a tragedy. If by episode 6 (a very specific episode for a good reason), you aren't absolutely gripped by this show's story and characters, I don't know what to tell you. It was anime of its year for a very good reason.
Oh god your girls are about to watch one of the most dark and depressing anime out there. Buckle up this world is supposed to be really dark and messed up so be prepared for everything to have a darker angle to it. This is not a happy universe. This is what serious late stage capitalism and oligarchy looks like.
You are in for a treat with this anime. My lips are sealed, no spoilers from me other that it will blow your expectations. PS. Just a personal take of mine. This show sounds much better in Japanese.
To each their own preferences. For me, the English Dub actually fits in with the setting very well, including the different cultures found in the setting.
@@johnsimonson1207 Kinda yes and no. Sure, English would, in theory, be a better set in Mike Pondsmith's multicultural Cyberpunk 2077 future. The problem is that, well, the characters in the anime (a Japanese/Polish production) had a dialog innately Japanese, down to the rough Yakuza or "Osaka bad boss" way of speaking. The intonation of how the voice actors "act" in Japanese gives the characters...well, their character. This is something that English-dubbing voice actors fail more often than not. We see that in, say, from Princess Mononoke to Naruto Shippuden. I would rather hear Mein's character speak with his Yakuza/bad-boss style than how he sounds in his English dubbed version. Animated characters aren't only their visuals and the words they say. They are also the way the voice actors speak that brings them to life. I can understand if others don't find that important.
@@luisdotespinalYour point would make sense if it wasnt flat out wrong. The Japanese version is the version that loses things, not the English version.
If you're still hating on this game and can't see how it's massively improved and practically become a different game since launch, there's no helping you, you're lost in your salt and literally refusing to look at the bigger picture. Also, you're missing out on an incredible game.
@@treefingers6572 geez.. Relax bro. I know the game has been improved and I do love it now. But you gotta admit it's launch was pretty bad, and beating Adam was way more satisfying after watching the anime.
This just isn't true in the case of this particular anime. If you watched it with japanese audio and enjoyed it, more power to you, but this anime was literally meant to be watched as a dub. The slang used, character accents, and overall better performances just lose so much context in the japanese version. It sounds like you haven't watched this show with the dub yet, and if you haven't, I highly recommend it. It's a much more authentic experience to the setting and style that is Cyberpunk.
