I love how you brought this up about how everyone is looking at only cybersecurity analyst or SOC analyst. This makes me want to go into IAM a lot more and very interested in this role now. Good video by the way and thanks for the information.

New cybersecurity career videos drop every Tuesday and Friday at 9am EST. What other questions do you have about your cybersecurity career?

Great video, very informative. I want to move into IAM. Currently have 2 years as a software developer and recently got the security +. Im thinking of getting vendor specific cert next. Do you have any recommendations?

@@chrisjurgens8653 okta is popular. Since you’re a developer, it could be easier for you to get a job as a developer with a company that does IAM. Then you can get training for free on the solution and get the company name on your resume.

@CyberLifeTV Thanks for the recommendation. I kind of want to move away from development, and looking to jump right into a new role.

Question I want to break in to iam engineer but men is hard to find any good content is no any 0 to hero or any bootcamp or any road map to break into iam engineer. did you give paid mentorship? ? also I'm currently preparing to get my AWS solutions architect.

Thanks for asking. I don't do any coaching program. If you go into a SysAdmin or cyber analyst/engineer role you will do IAM as a responsibility. Finding jobs with IAM in the job title is challenging. You can look at open IAM jobs and see what skills they are asking for. Typically, you will see them asking for something like Okta experience. From there, look up any vendor tools they mention and find free versions you can train with. You just need a little experience with the tool. But again, it's easier to find more traditional jobs that just have IAM tasks in the JD vs finding a job posting for IAM.

Hi Ken.. really liked the video. I am based in Hong Kong and fresh out of college and have got a job as an IAM engineer. Could you tell me if an IAM role can help me develop as a cyber security engineer say in 3-5 years? Or will I be stuck with IAM roles forever? Haha.. Thanks a lot for your help.

Yes, you should be able to transition to a cyber engineer job in that time. Of course, a lot depends on the place you live in the world and which companies you are looking to get a job at.

Thanks for the video. Any advice for trying to land one of these types of jobs with no experience? I'll be graduating from WGU with my B.S. in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance, and what I've learned so far is that I'm not as interested in being a SOC analyst or Pen tester, but managing access feels like something I would like to do. I would definitely like to pursue a Sailpoint cert since that seems to come up a lot when I look at job postings, but a degree and certs with no experience, I'm not sure if that's enough to get my career started in this area.

Great question. The key is focusing on how you managed access in previous jobs, school projects, cert training, or even your life. Everything you have done in the past is a transferable skill to cyber. For example, if you have kids and you check the house each night to make sure everything is locked, tie that into your resume because you 1) checked the physical security controls (locks, alarm, cameras, etc) to ensure they were implemented properly and functioning properly 2) ensured the "critical assets" (aka your kids) for the organization were safe 3) did all of the above within time and budget constraints

I'm Okta professional. I was thinking about going for my administrator and Microsoft Identity access certification also. Do you think it's necessary? I have a lot of certifications but I got almost everything for Free.

Iam actually working as IAM Engineer, have vendor specific certificate, and CompTIA sec +. What other cert I can do. I have only 3 years of working experience
@CyberLifeTV
@CyberLifeTV 3 месяца назад
@@Infononithudga it doesn’t sound like you need to collect another certification right now, unless your employer is asking you to do it. Once you’ve got 5 years of experience, I would recommend CISSP if it’s in your budget because that opens up more job opportunities.

@@CyberLifeTV definitely will go for it. Thanks for the suggestion. But right now I'm feeling my learning has been stopped. Not sure what to learn. This tools might change anytime again I need to learn from scratch to master them. So I want to improve my knowledge in IAM, rather than the IAM tools.
