thanks for this video👍 especially liked WAN/LAN explanation on bridged network. Looking forward to learning more about firewalls with you in the upcoming SOC course!
Love what you do Steven...Your content on Cybersecurity is amazing...I cant wait to be a part of your new SOC course coming up...I have some cash on hand for the project, but not the entire $500, could we get a discount or an option for maybe an installmental payment in 2 folds
Hey! Thanks, unfortunately there is no installment plan as of release but it is something ill have to work on. My advice is to not worry about enrolling right away. I would instead try self learning via the free route until you’re in the financial position to purchase the course.
Great Lesson. Quick Question: If I install pfsense on a computer with 2 NICs, then I should be able to physically set it between my ISP's modem and the wifi-router AND set the router to "Bridged-Mode" (so I can use it as an access point). Right? And a cheap managed switch would actually go between the pfsense and the access point. Right? TYIA
Hey Steven, awesome video, I'm learning a lot. Newbie question here: You assign a private IP address to the firewall because you're in a lab environment, then that IP address is translated by your router to an inside global address (this IP address would probably be the same as your host computer)? My next question is: Your Windows OS within the lab has a default gateway that points to the firewall. Does the path go like this: Windows OS (lab) > PF Sense > Router > Internet?
In addition the old pc I want to use for a firewall, should be standalone with virtualbox and with pfsense liaded virtually and must it be hardwired or can it be wireless?
If you want to dedicate your old pc as a firewall and go the virtual box route rather than installing the image directly onto your PC, you'll need to make sure your network adapter is set to bridged mode. Both wireless/wired should be fine however if you plan to keep the firewall up and running all the time, I would opt for a wired connection.
A great content as always. I have a problem when installing the pfsense. I'm having this error "cannot reach the netgate servers". I've double checked my wan (bridged ) and lan (nat), everything is Ok.
Are you using a laptop and connected to wifi? If so, your bridged adapter may be connected to your ethernet adapter rather than your wifi adapter giving you no internet access. Thus, you'll need to configure a custom network adapter to point to your wifi adapter.
@@MyDFIR Yes i'm using a PC. My bridged network is normally my computer 's wifi network adapter.. I've checked it on my PC ipconfig /all. I will maybe change adapter and sée what happens
Hello when i am at network configuration, when i press the e0 i get an error telling me uknown dhcp value 0x7d. Then when i proceed with installtion it stucks to connectivity check. What should i do?
If you switch your bridged to NAT does it work? If so, you’ll need to create a custom network adapter to point to your wifi adapter (if you’re connected via wifi on your host pc which I am going to assume is a laptop?) as by default, bridged will use your wired network adapter and if you aren’t plugged in via ethernet then you won’t be getting a connection.
