Sir, i have applied cyclic loading in beam-column joint. Time increment of 0.1sec which starts from 0 to 18sec. Disp cycle is like 0, 1,0,-1,0 like that. How to get the exact displacement data in history output request.

I have used dynamic implicit analysis, with x unit of time as 0.05 sec in history output request. In the resuIt, I get the value for 0.875mm not an 1mm. I have tried with t-0.01 sec, same thing happened. Kindly suggest the frequency option for getting results corresponding to exact displacement value.

Dear, There set output history request as evenly spaced time interval and set the value as per your requirement. For example you are running model for 10 sec and after each 0.05 sec you want output history plot. So number of interval will be 10/0.05 = 200 For exact displacement you need to check the time when 1mm displacement achieved. And you can use from time point option also.

Dear, As it is Force vs dispatched plot so Initial stiffness can be find by slop of curve in linear zone. For ultimate strength you need to convert it into stress-strain curve.

I just have a question. Why have you used General static Procedure? If your load is changing or dynamic loading you should be using Dynamic Implicit Procedure? What is this hysteresis loop of? Is it of a material or a beam or of the boundary conditions?

Dear, Repeating load not always dynamic load. It is common confusion among many engineering students and industrial people. And of course boundary conditions always play role.

Nicely explained. Could you please give me an idea of where to get those plastic parameters?. I have an experiment done that gives me the force values for the applied cyclic displacement. From there, I could find a single yield stress value at which permanent deformation happens. Not sure, what could be the other yield stresses and plastic strains values. Thanks!

Dear, You need experiment not only gives yield point but also provide number of stress strain combination..that can be used for material calibration and plastic data extraction.

Dear, I'm not sure for the moment-rotation curve. But if experimentally it can be..then surely abaqus can do the job.

Dear Dr Thanks Please tell me : Can abaqus consider the PINCHING effect under Cyclic loading for concrete structures? if yes, please tell me HOW? I need tutorials? if yes, I ask if it considers the bond slippage between steel bras and concrete to can consider this effect?

Dear, I'm not aware to such material model in abaqus. It may possible..but not in my knowledge.

Sir, I tried for hysteresis plot of RCC frame with thin steel infill plate in ABAQUS with cycling loading. I got very higher values in hysteresis plot with kinematic hardening for steel. Can you kindly suggest any solution for this problem?

Dear, I never performed fatigue analysis in Abaqus. I suggest you to use FE safe instead of Abaqus.

Dear, I suggest to use FEsafe for fatigue analysis. For that 1st run Abaqus model and call the odb file into the FEsafe. There you have all options to apply load type and load cycle..etc... Difect fatigue step is also available with Abaqus in...for low cycle fatigue problem...but I never used...as FE safe is the one of best tool.

Dear, You cannot use riks for auch analysis. Instead use implicit dynamic.

Why did you use Isotropic hardening model while modelling Cyclic loading? Most papers recommend that a nonlinear kinematic hardening model (combined isotropic + kinematic hardening) should be used to model cyclic loading.

Dear, It was just an example to explain process, Not material. There should be kinematic harding with failure material data, no doubt. even better to go with user material.

Dear, Use kinematic hardning rule instead of isotropic hardning. Even you can use crystal plastisity for more cycles. Here just for example purpose isotropic hardning used.

Dear, Plastic material data is must for this type of analysis. You may use kinematic harding rule. I'm not aware to Ansys software and material models. Ao i cannot help in Ansys.

Sir I have tried the tie model but the analysis takes very long time.. it gets stuck at some iterations and proceeds very slowly.. I have tried everything regarding that but it doesn't help. Kindly tell how can we simulate a perfect bond between two concrete interfaces?

Dear, Bcz movement of end pont is constrained movements...which not generate any inertia effect. Hence no meaning of selecting dynamic step.

One more question sir. As you have told in the video that you will tell about why you have used interaction for coupling although you could place boundary condition directly. So can ypu please tell us the reason.

Dear, Coupling is just to make sure load and constraints transfer to the whole face instead only one one node/point.

Thanks for such detailed description. Here is one question i want to ask regarding the time period in step (static, and dynamic implicit). Can you please explain what these time period means here. Will these be same for same assambly, if i am appliying a load in static step and then removing that load in dynamuc implicit step.

Dear, Time period is just period of any event/process. Increment time is small step taken by solver to converge solution. It depends on may parameters like contact, material, type of simulation, element, nonlinearity etc.

Dear, The fundamentals remains same. Apply plastic material data Apply cyclic load/displacement Plot Reaction force - displacement. Only you need to know basic options of Ansys or any CAE software.

Dear, Such simulation need material data that can consider pinching effect. In few work i found people used UMAT for that.

Dear only plastic material gives you hysteresis loop in loading and unloading. Reaction force drops little when material reaches to high plasticity zone...bcz at that time plasticity allow free movement in the component. If you provide damage criteria then only it will show you damage results. However, of you want to see fracture in component you need to run fracture analysis by XFEM.

One more question, I wanna simulate the steel structure in a cyclic loading until the reaction force drops and the structure destroys. That can be achieved in ABAQUS/Standard? By the way, I have defined ductile damage and deletion element in the model.Thank you.

Yes, you can. Make sure proper damage criteria as per your material.

Can I also get the hysteresis loop with the dynamic implicit method? I tried it myself but the field output for dynamic implicit is different than that of general static. Can you please make a video of getting moment rotation curve also ?

Yes. You can plot hysteresis with GS, implicit, explicit step. Field and history output for general static and implicit step are same. Ultimately you need to plot force vs displacement.

@@simtech0598 Which nodes shall I consider for the hysteresis loop? For example I have a cantilever beam with connection? Should it be the node on which I have applied the load and then calculate the displacement because of it? In your example you have just one support but I have two supports?

Dear, Hysteresis plot always depends on region of interest...where exactly you want to see the deviation in displacement with respect to applied force. Generally we looka at region of maximum displacement. So choose point accordingly.

sir, I have been modelling a reinforced concrete beam. I have conducted experiment -cyclic loading test for 2 million cycles and we have the plot for deflection with respect to no of cycles. same thing i have been trying to simulate in abaqus. Is it possible to run 2 million cycles using static general step? or should i use direct cyclic step? can u help me with this

Dear, I don't think its easy computationally to perform analysis with 2 million cycle. You need huge storage and server level power.
