66304's consist nearly derails passing over wet beds, where a double dip in the track causes the connected wagons to bend and shake all over the place! I honestly thought it was about to come off the track. Reported to the signaller as soon as the train has passed. This was the root cause of the derailment near Lydney on the same type of wagons, thankfully it stayed on this time! Seen is 66304 on 4M36 Daventry - Wentloog at Moreton-On-Lugg 09/03/2014.

The last wagon’s rear bogie audibly land back on the track 3 times during its bouncing fit! That’s quite incredible to watch actually. A brave camera man/spotter, and a decent responsible one for reporting it to the nearest box. That’s as close as I’d think possible before that came off the rails.

Just read the RAIB report into the Gloucester West derailment (in which case the primary issue was the poor condition of the track but the extremely poor design of the IDA wagons - same as these - led to derailment.) Interesting to read that on the basis of this video footage, DRS have applied various operating restrictions including banning IDAs from secondary routes and banning partially loaded vehicles from being marshalled at the rear of a train. Nice work!

I reported a similar incident about 30 years ago. A freightliner train from Basingstoke to Reading passing through Mortimer station, (where I was waiting for my train), was bouncing so severely at the tail end that it was 'flicking' chunks of ballast up as it went. I phoned the panel from the signal-post phone and the train was stopped at Reading West for inspection. I gave my full name and address and a detailed description of the incident, but no-one got back to me; perhaps because there was no derailment at that time.

Similar to something I once came across on the Down Relief just west of Acton Main Line but the cause was an engineering possession being given up before the track had been properly tamped. Wet beds as far as the eye can see! Get an (ESR 5MPH) on there immediately! Notice the white colouring on the 6ft rail, where the the ballast and sleepers have suffered friction due to poor track drainage, perfect conditions for any type of twist to form. That’s got be getting on for a 1 in 90 (33mm) twist! It’s shocking the local maintenance team have allowed it to get that bad, surely the local patrolling team would have called this in? The way the carriages are bouncing around on the rail, I’d personally have ultrasonic testing conducted, in case a rail change was in order, as well as having those wet beds dug out and fresh ballast dropped and then tamped. If the drivers aren’t calling that in as a ruff ride, then there’s something horribly wrong with the network, if the driver thinks nothing of this!

Norwich to Lowestoft and Yarmouth, wherry and bittern lines are currently being modernised and having their semaphores removed. Shame as that line with its village stations is like stepping back in time. The worst of it is that you can see the hardware has had money spend on it and is in good order. Why change?! Means loosing some signal boxes too sadly. Hope local preserve railways are offered the discarded infrastructure from those lines. Too good to lose. Thanks for filming.
