Cycling around Lake Tahoe for the FIRST TIME

My first time riding around lake Tahoe was AMAZING! I had Stefano be my guide and show me around this gigantic, and extremely beautiful lake. I brought my family to get away for the first time since the quarantine has lifted. So I talk at the end about my issues with finding balance between bikes and family when traveling.
Cycling around lake Tahoe and especially cycling around Emerald Bay is must. But I'll be honest, the mountain bike trails were where it was at. I got to ride MTB twice and if I had to bring just one bike, it would be the MTB. The lake loop is not very challenging though, so it's a great ride for any skill level. Cycling in Lake Tahoe is best around June to October during a weekday if thats possible. And going clockwise is the perfed direction.

I was born in South Lake Tahoe, grew up at Stateline, Zephyr Cove Elementary School alumni, done that loop plenty; you actually did it justice, thanks for the nostalgia. BTW that stretch between Sand Harbor and Spooner Summit was scary 35 years ago - no shoulder and that won't change. Emerald Bay is epic either way, glad it got props, along with family time. 4:00 he's right, u just knew that dude was about to turn in front of him. Years of experience will get you used to that, how often they decide to pull around you with 40 feet to cut a turn at 45 mph with no signal. One time my friend had this happen but we happened to be going only about 15 mph. He decided not to cut back across the lane toward the inside, but instead just kept going forward. You can say he ran into the side of his car (as the driver tried to argue), but the police disagreed. Got a brand new bike.

Great Video! It reminds me of when I did the loop in 2013 when I visited northern California and Nevada for cycling. It was late in April and quite windy and starting in King's Beach I knew that the first half will be tailwind and then 60 km of headwind. I was confident to pick-up a fellow rider or group on the way. However, I was astonished how few cyclists there were and of the few none rally matched my pace It was maybe still early in the year, so I ended up of riding most of the route by myself. The day was beautiful and bright with quite some snow left on the mountains. Coming from Switzerland I know some quite epic rides in the Alps, but Lake Tahoe is definitively very, very special. Your video reminded me of that incredible ride and day, thanks!

Tahoe works really hard to keep the lake clear. (they were having trouble with run-off from the developments, etc.). It is a very pretty ride. Did it 20 years ago with my Dad. We went counter-clockwise with a 6am start. I'm still impressed that he tackled the ride--he commuted by bike regularly, but I'm not sure he did a ride >10miles before that. Really good message to leave everyone with at the end of the video! Cycling, particularly competitive cycling, is, as you said, an astonishingly selfish enterprise! I've known too many guys who've ruined relationships and destroyed marriages (with kids) over the bike. And this video is kind of bittersweet for me. My son lives in Reno (I live on the East Coast). Last year, after driving it, we decided we'd do a lap of Tahoe on the bike this summer. It's become a bucket list thing for me. Well...Covid-19's put paid to that plan for the time being. So for now, this video has to do. Thanks for being my surrogate!
