In this tutorial, I show how to fishless cycle a freshwater 5.5 gallon aquarium and how my first time experience goes, using ammonium chloride and live nitrifying bacteria from a bottle, by Dr. Tim's Aquatics. I recommend this cycling method and the products used.

Btw, I should have mentioned that high levels of nitrate is fine during cycling but not when you have fish. High levels can be harmful. The only way to keep the nitrate at a safe level is to do water changes and or have plenty of live plants in your tank.
Items needed for cycling tank: Dr. Tim's Ammonium Chloride and Live Nitrifying Bacteria and First Defense, the API Aquarium Water Test Kit, a heater, a filter, a substrate and decorations and plants. As well as patience and perseverance.

Ok, so you add both Dr Tim’s Ammonia and One and Only at the same time on the same day, then wait 24hrs?

Great video!! Can we change Dr.Tims Ammonium Chloride? With 99.5% pure Ammonia Chloride powder from chemical store, because it is way more cheaper than Dr. Tims in my country. Thank you!!

Dr. Tim's bottle is a reagent grade ammonium chloride, and the concentration is 40 mg/ml of total ammonia-nitrogen. I think you using that pure ammonium chloride powder is perfectly fine. You might have to add more or less of the amount recommended by Dr. Tim's ammonia, depending on if the concentration is different. Otherwise, you just have to make sure the ammonia you add doesn't go above 5.0ppm. That would be a really dark green test result and the cycling would take a super long time. Unless you get the ammonia level down with water changes and or adding more bacteria.

Thanks. I can imagine the effort being put into this video, its been helpful. I just wanted to clarify one thing. If the tank is just going to be used for a betta fish like in this case, will it be enough bioload /contribute sufficient ammonia for the established bacteria to feed on subsequently? I'm curious because I've been having my betta for over 2 months now. And he is currently in a 5g tank, I did wanted to cycle it after reading about it but then he seemed to be stressed when the filter was on, and I tried many things like slowing the flow of water with a sponge etc but still he seemed to like it quiet and calm so I decided to stick to regular water changes and clearing away detritus whenever I notice it
