New subscriber and have been semi-binge watching for five days. 74 years old and grew up in Detroit where I think you are from. Very happy I found this channel. Bells are no problem but the music at the beginning was annoying (IMO).

....not much fun a big bear charging down the path while you doing the squat in the bushes holding your camera for defense! That bottle reminds me of the 'P' bottles truckers carry and they throw it out the window on a country road [usually at night] so no one can see! I did, I admit it! JaYoe!
Hey Matt! I have a little life hack for you when dealing with mosquitoes....dryer sheets! It sounds strange I know, but it works great. My sister-in-law told me about it and I was extremely skeptical. After all I have decided after many years of getting attacked by many of the little buggers that I must be know in the mosquito world as a BLOOD BANK! :-) Take care and JaYo! :-)

If you are bear concerned, stop and get a small loud air horn. Black bears are basically shy unless startled but on average they will turn away if you blast the air horn.Peddle on lad!
there may be a pretty many backpackers with working holiday visa entitled in working for one year in the designated country like japan but i cant see them in the farmland. maybe it is because of the language barrier in between the farmer and backpacker.
