Today we ride along the St.Lawrence River on the Waterfront Trail from the town of Gananoque east to the small hamlets of Ivy Lea and Rockport.
We haven't done this ride for a few years so we come back today to relive some great memories from past trips. The bicycle trail (a paved bike and walking path), extends along the entirety of the Thousand Islands Parkway, from Gananoque almost to Brockville, but today we ride only the western portion of it. (about 20kms one way from Gananoque to Rockport). We also take a few small diversions along the way to get different views of the river and local hamlets.
Our route offers wonderful views of the St. Lawrence River, it's many islands, local countryside and the picturesque villages of Ivy Lea and Rockport.

Loved this tour, thank you so much for sharing this! Beautiful area, you have captured so well. Lots of memories of that region, from daytrips with my parents as a kid, in the late '70s and early '80s. Area hasn't changed that much. I remember loving that picturesque rock cut at 10:40, from the backseat of my dad's Dodge Aspen station wagon, in July 1980. lol Very much appreciated and enjoyed this Todd! Thank you! Pat

Thanks Pat! Happy to have kindled some good memories of your youth. I worked down here at the National Park in 86/87 so had lots of good times out on the river though it was a challenge trying to learn all the various islands and boating routes. Certainly a beautiful area and always try to imagine what it must have been like say, in the 1500s. Must have been amazing!!!!

I was just there too on Monday. Really had to gear down like Diane on the way back. Loved seeing the dips into side locations.

Wow! You get around eh? It’s a beautiful route for sure with so many nice views of the river. Need to go down and ride the whole thing at some point. Thanks for watching!

@@juliesmith8146 I agree about the shade. The side roads we took were more shaded so that provided some respite. Ideally one would go on a more cloudy day but that’s sometimes hard to predict. The sunscreen does help although I need to get a thin shirt with long sleeves but never too thrilled to wear long sleeves when it is hot out but perhaps there are cycling shirts that let the air through but keep most sun off.
