This video is of the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Path, following part of route 71 along the banks of the river Greta. This video was shot before Storm Desmond struck Cumbria and inflicted severe damage to the infrastructure of this trail. Enjoy the video and once the Trail is re-opened try it out for yourselves.

We have walked this route and loved the history. We were so saddened by the damage done by the storm.

We thought it was a great place as well Shuna, we had ridden the route a few times and enjoyed it a lot. The Diversion takes you up near Castlerigg which is well worth visiting. The next time we head up to the lakes we will check out the modified route if it is still in place. Steve

Hi Claire, we have ridden the trail a couple of times, in both directions. However, we have not been able to visit since it reopened. We might make it back in the near future all being well. Steve 🚴‍♂️ 🚲

I've a fascination with rail-trails and have only previously seen glimpses of this on C2C youtube vids,so thanks for a very good full video.And thanks for the update link.

Thanks for the feedback Knrst, many of the Sustrans trails we ride follow the routes of old railway lines it's something I always find interesting myself :)

Hi mate, I think this route is still partially closed, there was a diversion taking you up to Castlerigg. I would probably give it a miss for now, what sort of distance are you looking for, parts of the Bay Cycle Way may interest you?

Is this trail still complete I had heard one of the bridges had been washed away
