I did this ride nearly three weeks ago, but didn't get the chance to edit it until now. I'm splitting this video into two parts for length. In preparation for my race in Texas, I wanted to put in a lot of miles and do a lot of climbing. The only way that is possible in Charleston is doing bridge repeats. For this ride, I went out to the Ravenel Bridge - probably the most iconic part of the city skyline. The day was a bit cold and VERY windy, but I did get quite a lot of elevation on the bridge!
In this video, I wanted to show a full out and back of the Ravenel Bridge, starting at the Mt. Pleasant side, riding to downtown, then back. In the second video, I'll show where my ride went to from there!

Lovely sunny weather & great views.. 🙂 Looking at the length/elevation it is very similar to the bridge that I've mentioned - Humber bridge. Unfortunately we rarely get the sunny weather 😑😢

Anyone visiting Charleston the first time needs to see the bridge. I don’t really ride it that often - it can get really crowded on nice days.

Awesome to see the Humber Bridge mentioned! Had some great times at uni walking across there after a night out 😂

@@JMower did you ride the tow stage 4 yesterday at 4pm (UK)? I rode alongside a JM cycling (RU-vid) for most of the 2nd half

@@AdamJennison JM Cycling is a different channel! Strange that we have the same initials though, and both make videos about bikes... 🤣

If you have the initials JM or the name Eric, it’s required that you have a cycling RU-vid channel.

Nice view and lots of foot traffic.

This was a pretty light day for the foot traffic - usually way more.

Definitely agree with the cold feet & hands. I normally keep wearing the shoe covers even in the summer 😂

Before I moved from the Midwest to the south, I used to do road rides in the snow. Not anymore!🥶🤧😰

That's not a bike lane. That's a painted sidewalk!

Pretty much!

Interesting that it was just "in your own world" for one person, but a heinous violation of a social contract for people who looked different. Huh?

@ericbarnettcycling Год назад
That’s not it, man. Nothing to do with looking different. Really, nothing. I show more people in the bike lane in the next video - there are people who know but just forget in the moment and people who don’t know or don’t pay attention. My frustration isn’t as much about any individual - it’s the way it stacks up over time saying “on your left” or “bike lane” all day. I don’t believe anyone is being malicious, confrontational, etc - I eventually get frustrated riding on the bridge and ride elsewhere.

@@ericbarnettcycling Okay, I really had hoped not. Your word is good enough for me. Bike/ped paths are hard, lived in Denver for 20 years. North Carolina is just as awkward, lots of new arrivals and they may not understand th right had rules of the road. We will ride in person one day

@@gearmonger8616 no worries at all - I rewatched the video with objective eyes and it can definitely appear that way - I’ve just had such a hassle riding that bridge in the past (and during that day). I think I come pre-loaded with frustration about the bike lane and brought that to the table that day. Didn’t make for a fun ride on the bridge, but that could be totally my mindset. Do you do any bike traveling / races?

@@ericbarnettcycling I am ready to. Got one gravel race next month, but want to do more multi-day big rides. Let me know. Your response to this has won you a friend and fan for life, really introspective and human. My brother.

@@gearmonger8616 🤝 thanks man! I’d love to get into more gravel - and more multi-day! If this 200 mile race goes well, I want to get really crazy.
