Cyclone Hidaya made landfall at around 11:00am East African Time in Kibiti District, Tanzania. The storm had winds of around 70mph (110kph) when it made landfall, and is now rapidly weakening inland. However, heavy rainfall is expected to cause more problems in an area already affected by flooding prior to the storm. The storm is also only 170km south of Dar es Salaam, who could receive sporadic heavy rains from the outer bands of the storm.
Interior areas of Pwani and Morogoro provinces are expected to receive the highest amounts of additional rain, with another 4 inches (100mm) possible.
Elsewhere, signals are starting to become stronger for a Western Pacific typhoon next week, and an unusual cyclone formation north of Australia is also on the cards.
