@@Fugeekid85 yeah, I guess most people don't know that Scott can use his beam without touching his visor. Just about every statue of him that's come out both license and custom has had him touching his visor. Gets repetitive.
Cyclops was able to activate his visor from triggers in his gloves over 35 years ago. Did Marvel retcon that out so he had to touch his visor like in the 60s?
It's a win with either statue. They were both executed very well. There's something about that XM piece that draws me to it though. Great job with the side by side. Only thing missing was the light up feature 😂. Thanks again!
Another great vid. I saw the unboxing for the SS Cyclops yesterday and couldn’t wait to see the comparison. The Ref Jersey was a great touch. As soon as I saw the thumbnail I literally laughed out loud; hilarious.
The two are amazing. The sideshow has the nice energy effects in the visor. The XM is wearing an awesome uniform with more details and his base is more nice.
Hey Gem love the in depth analysis of these pieces especially the little acknowledgment of an international purchase difference. My preference is the Sideshow piece with the Power display portrait but I like the Xm pieces pose (with the hand to visor) both great but Sideshow for me
I like the detail on the xm...its my favorite ...this is an awesome video man ! Need more comparisons like this bro this channel is huge for new collectors and veterans.
Great review man, it’s why I like your channel: honest review no matter what. I think you nailed it with the “blend” of the statues making the ideal piece. His arm up on the sideshow would be a clinch (light up feature would be cool too). I came into this thinking it was XM hands down, but seeing them side by side I might give the edge to SS because the screaming portrait, emerging beam, and YELLOW VISOR! Small details, but with pieces being so similar they add up.
I like how the XM has the pouches on the shoulder straps and I love the second base for the swap out torso but man it all comes down to the visor for me. I thought the gold was a little weird when I first saw it and then I saw the swap out visor for sideshow and maan I think that is SO dope. Very tuff call man
I got the XM Studios version B of Cyclops and can’t wait for him to arrive next week!! I was thinking about getting the Sideshow version but pulled the trigger on the XM piece instead, but you can’t go wrong with either one. 🖖🏻👊🏻❤️
That intro was hilarious! The details...the base...the paint...the switch out...XM Studios takes it all the way. Well worth the extra couple hundred $.
Stuka Von Ferno why does it disappoint you? It gives you options. Buy the one you like or in my case I’m getting both Gambits because he’s my top 3 comic book superhero. Both are nothing alike. As far as these Cyclops I’m only getting the XM version. Not a fan of the SS version.
@@ShadyDBZ4 I like options, they're healthy. I'm just slightly disappointed by the lack of creativity, no doubt each piece will be very good but do we really need another couple of Gambit's when so many other characters remain ignored. I understand It's down to sales and profit but It feels a bit stale. I agree, the XM Cyclops would be my choice but It's a close call. However, I won't be getting either as I already have a Bowen Cyclops statue & bust.
Yeah I agree, the poses for the XM are a little off but I'm willing to look the other way with the extra details it has. Had to grab me an XM. Too each their own though. You can't go wrong with either. Great review!
The statue on your right looks more like a real person and the one on your left looks more comic style , both of them are amazing I hope someday get one of any of those.
i don't know if it's just the cyclops I grew up with but I remembered he HAD to touch his visor to enable his vision blast as it allowed him to activate letting his beam go through the 'glass' but also the intensity of his beam. seeing the beam shooting out without him touching his visor seems off to me
I'm not against XM in anyway. I think they got some awesome statues as well. But for Cyclops I believe Sideshow nailed it. Definitely has that 90s X-men animated series look that we all grew up to love til this day!
XM piece still draws me in and is a win for me. The only change i would have like to see on XM is the X on his belt i like the one on SS better. Nice review on both pieces
I don't see this video as a " which is better". I see it as a great "what makes a statue great", this has shown what to look for when buying a collectible. My favorite video on this channel so far
You need 2 auto-spinner lazy Susan’s to do more of these “Ref-Gem”! Or is that Footlocker Gem? Lol 💎 This just in...Sideshow Cyclops sold out due to Gem review! Jk it’s still there.
I have to agree with you for the vast majority of what you commented on. The ppl who don't agree are just in denial because of whichever one they chose.
I like the XM varieties. If SS didn’t have a basic base then I would’ve went with it, but XM has the basics of the character down, he had that Brown hair, plus the colors and costume is better. But for the price of SS, you really can’t complain at neither of them IMO
Love the channel, and this was a great review! I don't collect the statues, but like to watch your videos, and just wanted to say that I thought you gave a really nicely reasoned comparison/review of the statues, based on clearly articulated (and, I think -- but I'm not an authority! -- aesthetically astute) opinions of their features and qualities. I was impressed in particular by your comparison of the bases, which shows a sensitivity to some subtle and nuanced design ideas (expressing narrative/story through something like a static pedestal), which I really appreciate. Its fun to listen to/watch someone talk about something they are both interested in AND highly capable of verbalizing their thoughts on in a comprehensive but accessible way. It didn't hurt that I like the Sideshow better too!
Sideshow wins on price hands down....and with the switch out portraits and visors offers more options....the base is simpler but here it's a case of less is more. The XM base has lots of detail but just seems thrown together. The XM piece is still impressive....but now that you pointed out the elongated torso i can't unsee it....going with Sideshow for this one.
The pose of XM is perfect for me. I just dont like the dark blue patches in the costume, its a bit distracting. Thanks for this review. I will go with SS. The simpler the better to combine with other Xmen statues
I like the look better on the SS, I have many Xmen pieces. Just for some reason im on the fence whether i want a Cyclops piece. Thanks for the review on both.
Love the Sideshow one, but I wish his pose was slightly different. It reminds me too much of the Wolverine PF. Awesome comparison video, this is one of your best yet.
Gem, You should take $500 and do a segment where you try buying key issues on ebay and show people how to flip them and make some bread. See what you can turn the 500 into, keep people motivated by seeing you flip them
Importantly the XM "looks" more detailed, but that's because they highlighted a lot of stuff with black paint; if you look closely at the sideshow detailing, I think it woulda been nice to see some highlighting of their lines, but not in black. They should have made the lines look dirty to make them stand out more. The portraits alone 100% make the entire sideshow piece better, IMO.
Thank you, man. I thought I was the only one who much preferred the sideshow. It’s Jim lee cyclops perfection. The XM is a well made piece obviously, but it’s far too over designed for my tastes.
Tough choice either way as both look good. I'd probably give it to Sideshow though for the cheaper price and for being the closer look to the 90's animated X-Men Cyclops.
I think both look good but I prefer the sideshows base a little bit more than the XM piece because of the lava effect which makes the base pop a little more.
