I must say something and I hope it speaks deeply to some of you. I am 42, single white straight in shape trump supporter that is an immigrant from czechoslovakia - in 1982 winter I arrived to meet my parents at JFK as I traveled with my Moscow born grandma on my dads side. I was left behind by my parents two years earlier since the communist government needed to keep me behind as collateral so my parents would return from their vacation which was actually a vacation that was always masquerading as vacation but in truth was defection. Just to skip ahead: i am familiar with hegel, lacan, alan watts, boring....nihilism I always fight...what is there....we need life.....thats why elites might be vampires and suck on baby blood but forgive them as they are lost as this song says but in a different meaning. We all want happiness, we all need to live and that requires happiness. I recommend shinzen young and his path of enlightenment based in deep Buddhist principles....but lets get on with the story and yes, I am logical and therefore aware I sound like a psychotic nut....but this is life, yes? In the past 3 days I have tracked down and watched every lauper video i could get my mouse clicks on. There is controversy over her voice in the 83-85 times, is it real or done for dorras (dollars) - in other words did she sell out already - of course not. She was 31 which many don't know in '84. My hot take - she is an extremely resilient, awesome, god like beam of healing light that has been let loose on our world to make us feel great. Also, contained in that hot take is that did music execs tell her to exaggerate her voice one way or the other to sell more. Maybe. Was her high pitched voice and extreme queens accent developed and this is what she manifested to the world. Maybe. Who cares, and at some point in the later eighties she dropped the shtick, especially uncle lou and Peg principle which does get old, especially when she does the same shtick on letterman that she does in japan. It is extremely endearing but one does see it as an act, and not much more. But this is my point - that shtick, that music, it is all created for us to love her. Those deepest wounded, that are hurting inside and need all the love in the world to prevent suicide are those that will do anything to make us love them. And this is a healthy response according to evolutionary biology and even if it wasn't it makes me and you feel great. I watched that 2012 video that was reality tv where she told her mom she had to leave home without knowing the circumstances. Then I learned her stepdad was trying to rape her, he saw her through the bathroom door into the bathtub and I see the pain and suffering as she leaves and is homeless in the big apple. Yes, she was homeless but at the same time she found the strength to live, she used her lifeforce fury to say god dammit, just because i come from pain, and dysfunction doesn't mean that it must define me and she went out and created the most beautiful songs, melodies and performances that I have ever seen. This is her genius and gift and I'm glad I can articulate it. Runners up for me for emotion are: mclachlan, sade, dead can dance, madonna... Tragically, I also found out she wanted to kill herself in 89 but didn't. The article I read glibly said she didn't because she doesn't want to be the girl who sang "girls just wanna have fun" and then kill herself - incongruous you see :). Of course, she is a deeply emotional, real person who knows the universe loves her no matter what, and that is why she didn't kill herself. So, yeah trump supporter, who cares. If Cyndi would tell me to vote for a commie like Bernie I would look down like a slavish automaton, nod my head, and say ok... Bottom line - she is a genius and what she had to overcome is the real american dream just like madonna moving from michigan to become a star. Those two are real american success stories that are amazing and that is why they touched so many hearts She is always real and a million times better than all these fake women everywhere!
