My 21st birthday (almost a decade ago now) I saw BTBAM, Cynic, The Devin Townsend Project, and Scale the Summit in New Orleans. Still one of the best shows I've ever seen. Haven't gotten to see Opeth yet, but they're definitely on my list to see soon.
I died twice, so to speak: the day i found out they broke up and id maybe never see them play together again, and then a piece of me died again in January when i found out about Sean's passing and i knew for sure id never get to see him play. He was my number one influence as a drummer. Im happy we still have Paul around.
Every time I listen Cynic, I feel really down, we lost a real genius not only playing drums but composing music. Sean Reinert, one of the best and most influential drummers of my generation !
I saw this band in 2008 in Bristol, UK when they were supporting Opeth. I had never heard anything like them and haven't since. Great guitar playing and very creative artists.
Here is some great music, so stop bickering and admire it as we all intended to in the first place. I can't wait to see them in a few weeks. Dream come true.
It bothers me how overlooked Cynic is in the modern prog scene. Paul and Sean are literally two of the founding fathers of modern metal. Death was one the early pioneers of extreme metal, and the first Cynic album "Focus" was important in shaping what prog metal would become. Really hope Paul and Sean can work out their differences and we get to see a Cynic reunion with those two in the future.
Unfortunately they did not. They only played one song from Focus, and it was "Celestial Voyage." The did the first 7 tracks from Traced in Air, not in order.
Something I'd like to point out is that Masvidal still has the Death sound in his solos and harmonies but doing something totally different, don´t you think?
@SoapyTaco Because the masses do not choose music based on technique or talent. It is decided by the look of a bands hair and pants in meetings with old men who have no clue what good music is, based on backroom conversations with other music illiterates trying to find clones of the last actually talented record with no real understanding of what made that record interesting and fresh in the first place. Just my opinion though.
is it basically saying how you dress or the fact that your hair is long does not make you metal its your music right, plus it was pretty high Maintenance
Wow, that's weird. They could of swapped 2 from Traced in Air, and put in 2 from Focus. But whatever, I guess that's what you have to do when you're promoting a new album.
@nocturnasinterfector Im pretty sure I heard him admit it in an interview somewhere. but I cant remember what. either way hes awesome regardless of sexuality
What's wrong with the singer? Paul kicks ass. I like the combination of soft and heavy that Cynic brings. I get tired nothing but death growls sometimes.
@WraithThorns yeeeeahh...its just hard to imagine though...i think hes just a very femmy hippie...but either way, i still appreciate him as a musician...fuck, gaath from gorgoroth is a well known queer and hes one of my fave vocalists..so i dunno
toured with dragonforce... i heard that didn't go to well.. dragonforce fans are mostly all posers that heard them on guitar hero. cynic needs to tour with atheist
dude i totally agree... love petrucci, portnoy, myung and rudess, although rudess creates some annoying sounds with his keyboard from time to time. but that singer kills it immediately... hate the guy
Incredible performance. Of course, it's Cynic. But they look really stupid headbanging with short hair. I know, they're trying to look different from every other metalhead in the world but come on. BTW His headless guitar is the shit.
funny having a name for how he is feeling and groovin to his music(crabcoring) and who are you to laugh? i think he would laugh at you.watching a video of a professor teach while you stuff your face in shallow envy.would we call that encoring? and point laugh?
