She can sing any genre. A classically trained singer, she is the and of the best soul singers, Broadway singers, R&B singers around. She won a Tony for the Color Purple, was nominated for two Oscar's, best song (which she wrote and performed) and best lead act.ress

Did u know that Whitney Houston’s mom Cody’s Houston is who sang that note on the record? Her group, Sweet Inspirations, was Aretha’s backup singers in the studio & on tour for yrs during that time. In the movie they have Aretha’s sister singing it, but that wasn’t the case. I wonder why they didn’t have a Cissy Houston character in the film?🤔

I love the interplay between Cynthia and the woman singing those high notes in the background, like huge professional respect. Shoshana Bean also sings the hell out of this song.
