GENERAL INFORMATION:
In summer 2022, I was approached by German SciFi metal band Cypecore to be their live drummer. I recorded this video when preparing for their live set in July 2022, playing through the song Saint Of Zion. Definitely one of my favorites!
This was recorded in one take without any editing. Some minor hickups are left in there, including me forgetting to continue double bass in the final chorus, haha... hard to believe this happened, I know.
Tempo is around 205 bpm (they never told me exactly :/ ). Recording, mixing and video editing done by me. Kick is triggered, everything else is just mic'ed. Enjoy!

Great one! Could you give me any tips on how to record a snare drum to get that sound? Things like microphone placement and angle, is it top/bottom or only top, how to mix it properly, etc. I have a good sounding snare drum, but I've been struggling a lot with recording it. I'm using AKG Drum Set Session I, seems like you did too in this video, although not for the snare drum :D Cheers from Poland!

Hey, thanks man! For this video, the snare has medium tuning. Both top and bottom are miced, although bottom is almost irrelevant in this mix. Top is recorded using an Audix i5 which gives a nice modern sound to begin with, although it's not essential. The sound is achieved in the mix by a combination of EQ, gate, pretty hard compression and lots of reverb. I basically played around until I liked the sound, so I recommend you do the same. I am also not an expert on mixing drums, I just try to alter things until I like the result. In this case, I think the snare sounds a bit too extreme even, but I am glad you like it!
