i saw some caligraphy type of art where was some traditional wisdom portreyed which said: don't waiste any inch of shadow (correlated with sun circulation, respectively with time). so do whatever you want but don't waste your time. exceptionally do what is right, because as lin-ti said, buddhas of all ages always seeked right dharma :-)

That tipple by the river looked like Radegast, my second favourite beer, rather unusual for the region, I would think.

Well spotted, you're right! I've always found Radegast dependable from the barrel but really underwhelming from the bottle :/

Hi Paul, I absolutely love your daytrips videos, so calming, informational and full of enjoyment, sometimes with excellent British point of view comments. I can feel how you enjoy it, being also lover of Czech (not only) countryside walks, pubs, beers, villages, castles, hills and forests (but not fried cheese:) ) . I believe one can spend a lifetime and still not have enough time to see and visit all of them...This is just excellent and so inspirative. Just I hope I will not be meeting groups of Chinese, American and Russian tourists on the green, yellow or red paths near Mšec, Rabyně or Okoř. :) Try Northern Bohemia around Litoměřice, Ústí nad Labem a Labe valley - extraordinary paysage.

Hi, I'm so pleased you enjoy the videos and thank you so much for taking the time to write such a long comment. I absolutely agree about the almost infinite number of possible trips in this country! I have visited Ceske Svicarkso, Jizerske Hory, Jested, Sedlo, Rip and hope to make videos about all these places in the future. I haven't explored too much around Usti yet - can you recommend a good starting point? Oh, and fried cheese - what can I say, it's a (very) guilty pleasure! ;)

@@paulcolto well, everybody has his own deviation and your cheesy one is pretty innocent :-) . Sedlo is great especially in spring. Nice trip is from Ústí via Střekov castle, Vrkoč, Lužická spojka and all along the hills through various viewpoints on left bank of the Labe to Lovosice (took me two days with night at one of the viewponts - but you can always interrupt your trip and descend to the river to catch some train). And Lovoš hill of course - and btw this is also wine growing area..although for wine lovers southern Moravia is much more interesting for wines and cellars trips...

Hi Paul, great video, as always! I don't know if it is due to your voice or the background music (which reminds me little bit of Satie's work), but your videos always make me calm and very relaxed, almost therapeutical. Paul, you are very lucky to make those journeys in the time of covid pandemic, it means everywhere is and will be less (if any) people, so you can see and film all the places at their "full beauty". My personal view of the translation "cottage" = "chalupa"... I think (and please, prove me wrong) that "cottage" means in czech both "chalupa" and "chata". In english, there is no word describing chalupa at all... :-( Maybe "summer residence", but it is not 100% correct. Let me explain my view of those two words in czech: 1) chata = smaller, with less furniture and devices, the wood used to build the chata is pretty visible, it usually doesn't provide you all the comfort you have in your flat / apartment / house. The toilet and hot water is optional thing. You can't invite your wide family to celebrate the Christmas to chata... in my opinion... 2) chalupa = bigger, with more furniture and devices, it can be historic building like mill or so, the touch of the history could be pretty visible, but chalupa also can be let's say it rough "family house" or "summer residence", so you have there all the luxury you need. The toilet and hot water is present in chalupa, internet is present, no matter if via cable or WI-FI ... You can usually invite your wide family to celebrate the Christmas at chalupa and you should be able to offer them beds for everyone ... :) More about this: onemovitosti.cz/rozdil-mezi-chatou-a-chalupou/ So everything, what can we see from 2:49 to 2:55 of your video, is CHATA, not chalupa :-) CHALUPA can be seen at 6:24 :-) My question is: Paul, do you consider the czech nature as unique? I mean, I have never been in UK, but I think that there is similar nature with similar beauties as we do have in the Czech republic. [I know, in UK, there is no fried cheese and cold served Pilsner Urquell]

Sir Mac! Thank you once again so much for your comment and the extra info! It means a lot that you take the time time to watch the whole video and to leave a comment afterwards! I had a discussion with my Czech wife about the appropriate translation for cottage because I remember the little Czech-English dictionary I bought when I first arrived in Prague translated cottage as "chata", but I noticedover the 7 years that I have lived here that the word I hear more is "chalupa". Now, finally, thanks to you, I understand the difference! Hura! I think I remember you saying from a previous comment that you have a cottage in the Rakovnik area - what an absolutely perfect place to have a cottage - I envy you! Regarding whether I consider the czech nature as unique? Well I need to think about that question for a few days before I reply! Thank you again!

@@paulcolto Good evening, once more, Paul, yeah, I have a cottage (summer residence) in Nový Dvůr (literal translation to english is New Yard), 12km west from Rakovník. It is great location, 20 minutes using car to Rakovník, where you can buy / get, anything you want. And if you have anything in Prague, it takes approx 75 to 80 minutes back to Prague ... Today, there were a lot of storms in the Czech republic. And the tiny village of Nový Dvůr is almost always the same case. Dark clouds coming from the west, and suddenly, part of them goes south to Berounka, the second part goes north to Rakovník and at Nový Dvůr, the rain is mild and the storm decent. The only trouble there is the wind, if the strong wind is announced, the wind always comes to Nový Dvůr ... Very close to Nový Dvůr is the castle of Krakovec (where Jan Hus resided, before he moved to Kostnice in Germany, where they burnt him down).
