The Czech Republic is holding a day of national mourning for those killed in Thursday's mass shooting at a Prague university.
Flags on official buildings are being flown at half-mast and a minute's silence will be observed at midday on Saturday.
Fourteen people were shot dead at the Faculty of Arts building of Charles University in the capital by a student who then killed himself.
Police are working to uncover the motive behind the attack.

Jasně , mi jsme si toho v Česku prožili málo, podívej se na naší historii od roku 1918 , co prožili naši prarodiče a rodiče, západ nás prodal Hitlerovi , pak přišli komunisti, potom k nám přijeli Rusové v tancích ( 1968 ) , potom nás okupovali 20 let, 1989 jsme konečně poznali svobodu atd...

I just do not understand the rules of this world! How come a young man in his early 20s has several legal guns registered in his name, Not one or two, several, they said eight guns! Isn't it already a red flag?
@hlinikukus
@hlinikukus 9 месяцев назад
No. Czech Republic has steadily 300 000 legal gun owners since fall of communism. Few pistols, shotgun and long rifle is nothing unusual. And in last 30 years there were only two other mass shootings with roughly half of casualities. Also last news here is that the police were alredy after him beacuse of murder of his father. He managed to slip under radar at the last moment. You can never fully avoid that, unfortunately.

@@hlinikukus@hlinikukus he sent a message to his friend that he was going to commit suicide, and his friend called the police, then police went to his house while he was already heading to the university. If he didn't message his friend, it could have taken longer time. But anyway, that is not my concern, how a normal person need 7-8 guns registered in his name? You do not need to wait for a mass shooting, If so many people have guns, then must be there are always some kind of crime is going on, only the major events make the headline. People have complex minds, maybe every country should stop legalizing guns !!!!

After hearing about this dreadful news, loss of innocent young people. I was shocked how many commenters just assumed it was a man of colour and of course a Muslim and of course blamed multinational, obviously a terrorist- obviously a racist response. I’m glad that so many of these comments are genuinely empathetic and caring at the loss of innocent lives. I hope all those sharing their love and care also share these same sentiments to other loss of innocence around the world - #Palestinian #children - nearly 9,000 innocent children have been murdered. I’ll write it again 9,000 innocent Palestinian children. I no longer understand the world I live in. I pray for all those affected by inhumane killing and their families, that God makes this inhumanity bearable. I just cannot even imagine how I would live if this had happened to me.

Condolences to all effected by this obviously troubled little man. The loss must be horrific. It is so sad to see. The education system is seemingly rotting our kids brains this can bee seen on so many levels as schools and higher education systems seem to delight in turning out radicals and activists of all sorts but don't seem to realise that extremism leads to extremism - Like Germany in the 1930's radically opposite idealisms became a huge problem and there was no need for the situation to be like that - School/Campus shootings just were not a thing when educators were leaders instead of panderers and where they had command of a the classroom or you got the belt and/or expelled for actual bad conduct instead of hurting someones feelings. In fact you can see a strong correlation between the decline of traditional discipline in schools and the rise of violence against teachers and pupils in schools as well as shootings. It is clear something terrible is wrong with the educational institutions when the kids are this screwed up and we need to put it right and fast.

I speak Czech and I lived 20years in the center of Prague. And I know this philosophical faculty of Charles University, I know students from there, teachers etc. THE MAIN POINT: drugs drugs drugs drugs drugs ... which creates prostitution, corruption, violence, mentally strongly damaged people etc. So: NO SURPRISE TO ME about what happened. And Czech police made mistakes this day, but they will hide them carefully. Czech politics conc. drugs are a total desaster, you can buy drugs in Prague center day and night without any real trouble, mostly sold by Jugoslavian and Albanian mafiosi, which live in tenthousands in Prague since Balkan wars. Everybody knows it, nobody does anything, many policemen are involved in it by corruption.

Dear BBC, the Czechs want their country to be called Czechia. It has been 7 years since they told you so. Millions of people are using it, almost all relevant institutions are using it. Maybe, just maybe, it's time to follow suit. Out of respect. Think about it.
@Heaven-dy9lj
@Heaven-dy9lj 9 месяцев назад
The Czechs I know think the new name is nonsense, still. They prefer The Czech Republic. For English speaking foreigners (world language), generally, will pronounce Czechia as the phonetic ch - chair,chimp, etc -not as Czechs do. The new country name for foreigners, is phonetically close to Chechnya, confusing. As I say Czechs I know prefer the old name, not the new.

No, the Czechs thinks "Czechia" is just nonsense for the lazies foreigners who can't be bothered to learn say the full name. Czech Republic is the country's name and always will be.
@Gosudar
@Gosudar 9 месяцев назад
@@Heaven-dy9lj First of all, the name isn't new. It has been used in English for more than 150 years (i.e. it's much older than "Czech Republic") and the usage has been rising exponentially in recent years. The Czechs I know think the "new" name is perfectly fine and far more convenient than the long name. Also, English speakers have to learn how to pronounce pretty much every word. That's how it is with English ortography. They have spelling bee competitons for a reason. English speakers I know have absolutely no problem pronouncing it correctly. Just like they learned how to pronounce Czechoslovakia, they learned how to pronounce Czechia and not mix it up with Chechnya.
@Gosudar
@Gosudar 9 месяцев назад
@@zuzisam Sorry to break it to you, but Czechia has been the name of the country (as an alternative to Bohemia) for almost 500 years in Latin and for 150 years in English. The "Czech Republic" has been used for only 30 years. It is the country's current long name and will remain so, just like Czechia is its short name. Anyway, the country will compete as Czechia at next year's Olympics and Euro, so the question is, what is BBC waiting for.
