who copied who... Chopin came after. so... Could this be an indication that Chopin was put through Czerny school of velocity at a young age ? It's quite plausible chronologically it was published when the young Chopin was learning the piano and Liszt of similar age did study under Czerny. Czerny's publications were popular. I don't believe in the fairytale that Chopin was self taught, even though his teacher was a violonist, his mother was a pianist and any of the two could have imposed Czerny on Chopin.

Dude, many, many pieces that Czerny have that are similar to the likes of Chopin and others, were compared after those composers...... In fact, Czerny is known to heavily borrow from other known composers. To say heavily is to put it mildly. Chopin didn't learn anything from Czerny. He might have taken melodies and ideas from composers ñ, just not from Czerny ñ.

I'm left handed and it's awesome that you're visiting great Etudes from not often heard composer. One of my favorite is Clementi's Gradus Ad Parnassum it has some very cool music in there virtually never played. I used to be addicted to wanting to learn the whole book back long ago but was pressed to focus on more widely known usual composers by my teacher at the time.

That’s pity! I believe it’s necessary to give students much freedom in repertoire choice. When we learn something we are obsessed with, the outcome and improvements speed is just on another level.

Nice. I haven’t seen you perform Moszkowski etudes. May I suggest you to make a video on 5-10 etudes that could be beneficial and aren’t that popular? I find Moszkosky op. 92 no 2 & 6 on that category. Which others have a similar difficulty level from other composers and cover other technical aspects of the piano? Thanks for always delivering great content

Holy Spokes that was awesome Denis ! I recently bought this Op. 299 book. You're really taking his tempo marking literally, In my view too fast for musical taste. But since it is an etude i guess the goal is technical.

there's also some op. 740 pretty difficult studies for the left hand (for example n. 12 and n. 28)

8, 12, 23, 28, 37 and 41! Very hard etudes, i recommend Czerny Op.399 School of the left hand, extremely hard etudes

@@czeynerlamentemusical8048He was known to be a proficient pianist, but could he play all his etude at his marked tempi, if so he would have been a formidable pianist on par with Liszt his student, but that's not the image history left us. So i wonder if his tempi marking must be taken seriously.

Denis what etudes played in early years, before Chopin and Liszt? Czerny op299 & 740 are good preparatory for Chopin and Liszt transcendantal?

Sure, as well as Moszkowski, Bortkiewicz, Debussy, and Liszt’s other etudes including 12 etudes d’exercise.

Hey Denis, this looks insane, but i have better. I transposed Op 10 n1 (Chopin) entirely for the left hand in the key of e minor. The arpeggio runs are mirrored (down first then up) and the right hand plays octaves high up. It sounds awesome maybe better than the original for the right hand. It's the best left hand study i know and i am proud i wrote it (well sort of :D ). Not to confuse with Godowsky, the left hand ranges as many octaves as the right hand in the original and is as difficult. As a left-hander, i memorize it and am more comfortable with it than the original for the right hand. But it would be the opposite for a right handed person for sure.

i don't find left hand difficult in passages here, i've played Liszt first Etudes and left hand works even more, ijust find a bit difficult the right hands chords to memorize them with the left despite are even simple secondary dominant and mostly domaninat and tonic

Holding the thumb down when executing 3-4-5 rapid figures could be injurious to your hand health.

You don’t need to “hold it down”, you can just relax it

no, holding the thumb down is the best way to open articulations in other fingers bc the weight and geometry of the hand get pretty well when thumb is correctly down, thats also why all these composers mostly keep that voice with thumb down. lol
