Great review! Way more helpful than the ones you alluded to at the beginning of the video. I am looking into buying the CZUR Aura, but I am very concerned about file size. I was hoping that you would go into more detail about the file sizes of a typical PDF (normal and searchable) for a 300-400 page book on the different scan settings.
Excellent question! I really should have said more about it in the video. Here's a sample of some of the files I've scanned, from largest file size to smallest. As discussed in the video, the searchable versions are smaller because making a file 'searchable' for some reason also forces a smaller image quality. Below, I have them listed by number of pages, but other factors like page size and weather or not they were scanned in color or greyscale (I never scanned in pure b/w), will also make a difference. Each line below shows: the number of pages, page size, and color info ... non-searchable file size (with "keep original image") ... searchable version of the same file. 732 medium pages, many in color ... 1.1GB ... 733MB (the color is what makes this one large) 413 large pages, no color ... 844MB ... 345MB (the very large pages of this book, larger than a 'letter' size paper, are likely what make the file sizes large). 711 med. pages, greyscale ... 610MB ... 262MB (I realize there's a gap here, in the 700+ to 400+ page range, but as it happens I didn't scan any books in that page range.) 396 med. pages, greyscale ... 514MB ... 207MB 327 med. pages, greyscale ... 416MB ... 172MB 271 med. pages, greyscale ... 285MB ... 120KB 154 large pages, greyscale ... 180MB ... 15KB 141 large pages, greyscale ... 139MB ... 54MB That's about as small as the file sizes go, for books. I scanned a series of 8-page, A4-size newsletters (greyscale, in Japanese) and the file sizes are all around 25-35MB, non-searchable. My entire "Scanned books" folder, which has 53 books plus about 3 dozen pamphlets in it - almost all saved twice, at both non-searchable high quality size, and searchable lower image size - is just under 20GB.
