I have been really impressed with the Czur Shine Ultra but there was a bit of a steep learning curve to getting (really) good quality scans. My initial scans (that I thought were good) actually weren't that great (especially after I'd had a few months of practicing.) I've since gone back and rescanned/re-edited a lot of those early attempts because of what I've learnt. I am hoping this video might help others in this regard.
This video shows how I'm using the Czur Shine Ultra document scanner and software to digitise (mainly) historical Chiropractic literature.
This first video shows how I'm using the Czur software to edit the scanned documents and export them as a searchable PDF. The first part of thise video can be found here ( • Czur Shine Ultra - How... ) and shows the actual scanning process.
I have tried to include little things that I've found makes the process more efficient and gets a better quality outcome.

@@sj1765 I’ve got a question. During a b&w scan have you ever scanned a page in color because of a photo and converted just the text back to B&W. I couldn’t find a way to just convert the text. Color creates too large a file. Thanks

@@JeffBromley - for this, I use the Auto option (maybe it’s Auto Enhance?) That scans the text in B&W and then the image part in colour 👍

Tip: when your cropping, you can actually drag the dotted lines on the side. Typing in the pixels isn’t the only way.

Hello, Scott. Thank you very much for your video. I have the following question because sometimes I have some eye troubles, I want to select the stretch option when standardizing the document. My question is: if I do that, is there any disadvantage to the stretch option? I mean, if I print the copy, will it cut the pages? does it work if I convert the document to pdf in the highest quality to make it less weird looking? Thank you!

Hi Ben - I don’t think there’s any disadvantage to stretching it. I stretch the front and back covers and then I maximise the text because, to me, it just looks better. The stretched text just looks a little bit odd to me but that’s just personal preference!

great vid. how do you make the software always open in administrator mode to stop premature crashing and closure? Also, any recommended software or free online service to convert to a smaller pdf?

Thanks! If you right click on the program, click 'properties', then 'advanced', then tick 'run as administrator' that should do it. If it doesn't, there is another tab called 'compatibility'. Click that and near the bottom there is another tick box named 'run as administator'. Tick that and apply the settings and it should now always run as administrator. I have always found this online one pretty good: smallpdf.com/compress-pdf.

Man I've had a CZUR on my desk for a year and haven't been using it because I didn't have time to learn it properly and their website tutorials are nearly useless. In 15 minutes you've taught me more then in over a year of spontaneous attempts and spinning my wheels. Thank you.

Can I use this software to work with my existing images, or is it only suitable for working with the manufacturer's scanner? Is the software free, and can it be downloaded?

Hey, you can import other files into this software but the software needs a serial number found on the bottom of the scanner to activate it. I would recommend using ScanTailor Advanced for editing stuff. I find it way better than this CZUR software!
