When the Depths are Dubious

This was supposed to be the Present theme for R2 before they repurposed it for the D.A. Garden. This musical piece is the only leftover from R2 that remains.

It sounds very peaceful especially with those birds chirping in the background

Fun fact: this music was originally intended for R2, a scrapped zone between Palmtree Panic (R1) and Collision Chaos (R3). Judging by the peaceful feeling and the birds, it was most likely for the good future of the zone. Edit: actually I think I read somewhere it was meant for the present instead.

And now we have confirmation. This has always been one of my favorite tracks in the game, imagine if it was in a level.

I played Sonic CD for the first time a few months ago, heard this soundtrack and fell in love with it right away.

Inner peace at it's finest.

There just something so serene and 90s about the bird chirping sound effect they used for this song.

Dubious Depths/Ridicule Root my beloved

something about this track... it's very dubious... it almost feels like it takes place in very large depths.

I swear I can't be the only guy who thinks this is definitely inspired by 808 state.

While many disagree that this Dosent sound right for a present theme for dubious depths, it actually works well. On the surface it’s happy and positive, but as you dig deeper it gets more ominous. Not as happy as Palmtree panic, yet not as mechanical as Collision chaos

Very nice! It would be cool to see this stage have it's own level, like a garden type stage such as press garden from sonic mania.

I would sell my soul and everything I own to hear a Tee Lopes remix of this.

D.A garden was something I would go into to listen, however, It’s very stupid how they didn’t include past music for D.A garden and past music for USA

Whenever Dubious Depths or Desert Dazzle is the right answer, this is the present theme of R2. And I love this.

Masato Nishimura said this was supposed to be the present track for the scrapped R2 level. It appears the future tracks were never made, just this one.

You know, with what we know about this stage, it probably would've been really interesting. It being a dungeon like stage, with a giant wheel mobile as a boss, it having an Eggman influence level of 10, heck this is where Amy was originally supposed to be captured if we go off what documents TCRF has. Makes you wonder what could've been.

every time i hear it, it makes me imagine i'm in a park full of flowers in the afternoon i don't know why

my imagination is running wild picturing what could have been. i see rusty ruin with rainbow water fall. watch sonic cd intro and when sonic runs and see water flick up with rainbow colours that's probably it.

If we ever get another Sonic time travel game (which I REALLY hope we do someday) I’d love them to bring in Dubious Depths. It looked like such a cool zone.

Concerning R2, I've seen people say this would've been the present theme, but with the upbeat tones and constant sounds of birds, I think this was meant to be for the good future. Here's my reasoning for it: A) Quartz Quadrant's good future has the sound of birds in it as well B) All these birds in the song would imply that the zone is completely devoid of Eggman's machinery, which would not be the case for the present That's my theory anywho

shame that Dubious Depths never got to be in the game. can we get a mod for sonic cd/origins and bring us dubious depths as the zone after palmtree panic. after you beat dubious depths you should head to collision chaos and play the rest of the game as normal

Ok I have a theory that I haven’t heard to many people discuss Everyone knows how this song was meant for the canceled zone “Dubious Depths,” & how it got reused as the D.A. Garden, but something I don’t hear to often is what time period this song takes place in. I personally think that this was originally supposed to be the Good Future version of the song. The birds chirping in the background gives a sense of peace, plus it makes sense since in the good future version of all the zones there’s animals in the background, plus just with how overall extremely chill the song is, it matches alongside the other good future tracks, as for present songs, there aren’t really any others besides Tidal Tempest. Idk maybe I’m completely wrong & it’s already been debunked, kr maybe everyone already knew this, but idk those are just my thoughts
