Thanks for the in-depth review! I’ve been eyeing the XS string line and contemplating ordering a set, so now I may give them a spin. I would never have guessed they’re coated, by the sound. The instrumental songs (originals?) sounded so good. Very balanced with a broad range. Your playing is exceptional! Great stuff 👏

Put them on my Recording King Series 11 OOO and also my FGX3 Yamaha Red Label. Have used Elixir PBS for the last 15 years exclusively and have tried many, many different brands and always back to Elixir. With these D’Addario XS’s I am converted. Amazing tone, playability and resonance/bending. These are without question the best strings now.

I hated the xt on my acoustic electric but I did like the classical hard tension xt on my classical Merida DCBK-15

Just put them on ...they didn’t have the elixirs so he suggested them and I was like what the heck ...and I love them so far ..day one . On a seagull qit S6.

Same - didn't like the fraying of the popular branded coated strings etc - especially under my nails on the right hand. XT were a big improvement but not enough to drag me away from my Newtone faves - will try these though.

I bought a set and can't wait to try them out. But one thing I was amazed at is that they are more expensive than Elixir strings.

I almost bought the XS strings. But I went with my elixir 12's I will give them a whirl next time. I find the elixirs do fray when you use a heavy pick and aggressive playing style. They seem to hold up well with just finger picking. But my main reason is they last a while for me. I play about 1-2 hours a day. I get about 2-3 months out of them.

How do these compare to Cleartone?

Do you know if anyone has done an ELECTRIC comparison between XT and XS? When I compared the accoustic XT and XS, I was deeply disappointed with the XS because I heard such great stuff. 1) First off, the XT’s are more totally balanced and the XS leans toward treble tones, so there was less bass. I prefer balanced strings, so I’m not sure what’s accounting for the difference - maybe it’s the different cores, coating process, or both? 2) The XS was WAY too slick. My fingers were sliding off the sides while playing. I never had that problem with the XT’s. 3) I do like the tighter response that sounds a bit less muddy on the XS. I wish they could do that with the XT and they’d be perfect for me. So that bummed me ever so slightly about my beloved XT’s because now I feel like I’m missing out on a great XS feature, lol. 4) The XS had to be changed much sooner than my XT’s. The XT’s can make it 2-3 months no problem. The XS barely made it to 6 weeks. I thought they were supposed to last even long than the XT, but apparently not. I don’t have sweaty/dirty hands and the conditions were identical - guitar on my stand in my apartment’s bedroom. The XS coating was coming off faster, which meant they started corroding sooner. The strings just gave out and started to sound nearly dead around week 4. I’m probably missing something, but those were my main takeaways. So I went back to using the XT’s. The big bummer about being a little muddier sounding is a trade off I’m okay with. They were just too slick and too treble-leaning, among the other issues. I’m hoping D’addario will take what they’ve learned with the XS and figure out how to tighten the string response so they’ll also sound as clear as the XS while retaining everything else I love about them. That being said, I’m now looking for similar comparisons with the electric XT/XS counterparts. I can’t seem to find ANY side-by-side video demos and longevity tests. Do you think that’s something you can do for a future video? Thanks!

Had it for 4 months and starts to corrode..play for around 8 hours during lockdown just for fingerstyle without pick..wash hand before play..wipe string after end of day..humidity around 70..and yes now the color looks like your pic..bass strings abit dead..😁 thinking to try Elixir phosphor next..

90 days? And how many hours a day did you play those strings?

Is the string rusty after 3 months?

Just installed this for the first time I am live musician daily. Always Elixir Nano. 3 to 4 hours daily on stage sweating and pounding in the last set. always changing strings every 3 shows as I snap strings on the 4th show. I will get back to you will use them until break point. What is more important for me is the durability of the tone.
