I don’t often weld a cage tube together.. and if I do I rarely take the weld off… But, when I do I hand file the weld. Much slower but much more controllable. A flap wheel on a grinder flexes too much and causes waves, and a grinding disc will cut to quickly/aggressively… with a good hand file, am able to have no indication there was ever a weld there… just sharing what works for me.. Fun project! Love all old school stuff… mine happens to be a 74 CJ 5… Good luck!
@@jamesbaker3211 great info! I run a really stiff backing plate on my sanding disc and keep it super flat when I’m try to avoid concaving the surface. I grew up in a 74 CJ 5 my dad bought new, my brother still has it. Garaged it’s whole like it’s beautiful
